Pink Tutu Time Travels - Post #2844: 12th December 1897

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to my monthly blog! Today's adventure takes us all the way back to 12th December 1897! Now, this date wasn't just any old day, oh no! It was a day filled with exquisite ballet and I, of course, was there to soak it all in!

You see, my time travelling steed, Magic Meg, loves to whisk me off to the most fascinating periods in ballet history. Meg is a magnificent Shire, shimmering with a magical, pink coat and gold hooves, all topped off with a glorious white mane and tail that wouldn't look out of place in a classical ballet.

This time, she trotted us straight to the Théâtre de l'Opéra in Paris, a stunning place where some of the most incredible ballet performances take place. The air crackled with anticipation! It felt like everyone around me was in their finest clothes and everyone was as excited as I was to see the show.

I, of course, was dressed in my signature pink tutu and had slipped my new pink silk ballet shoes onto my feet. It always feels like stepping into a new world when I don those shoes and they just fit with the elegance and grace of 1897 Paris perfectly!

Speaking of outfits, everyone around me looked divine! Such elaborate dresses and dapper gentlemen, you wouldn't believe it! I made sure to record all the wonderful fashion choices in my leather rucksack, you know, just in case some modern-day inspiration strikes. Who wouldn't want to dance in a flowing gown and a perfectly placed hat?!

Right, enough of my outfit obsession for now, let's talk ballet! The performance I saw was "La Source, Ballet in Three Acts." A spectacular mix of breathtaking choreography, dazzling sets, and utterly romantic costumes, it truly captivated the audience.

You know I just had to capture every move! You see, I couldn't just sit back and passively enjoy it! My dancing soul took over, and I was twirling around the stage (not in my pink tutu - not during a show! Even in time travel, one needs etiquette) in my mind, imagining what it would be like to take to the stage at that very moment.

There were some truly remarkable dancers that night, and my ballet heart ached to learn the art form in those beautiful periods of time. There's something incredibly special about the ballet world of the late 19th century. They move with such exquisite control and strength!

Of course, no time travel adventure would be complete without a little bit of shopping. It would be simply rude to go all the way to Paris without taking in some of its unique style, wouldn't it? So, off we went, Magic Meg and I, to explore the streets. I found the most darling ballet shoes, hand-crafted with exquisite detail, and a lovely velvet headband that could be easily worn for both ballet and afternoon tea.

As always, I managed to get my paws on some precious stories about the ballet world of 1897 - what dancers dreamed of, what were the scandals they were buzzing about, the ballet fashions - you know I just love that backstage gossip!

The ballet world was in a frenzy on the 12th of December! It wasn’t just La Source. There was "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg! Can you imagine seeing such legendary ballet on a single night?

Back in the 21st century, I try to emulate that energy! Every night I try to squeeze in a little dance and, of course, my favourite thing - seeing shows at the local theatre! I love discovering those new ballet productions, supporting my fellow dancers, and trying to bring the old world charm back into my modern life.

And who knows, perhaps one day I can inspire you to pick up your own tutu! Remember, darling, there's a little pink tutu princess waiting inside each and every one of us!

Now, let me know in the comments: what are some of your favourite ballet performances? And have you ever considered trying a pink tutu for yourself? Yours in the art of ballet,

Emma 💕
