Post #2869: A Pink Tutu Trip to the Turn of the Century!

Hello darling darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu time traveller, and today I'm whisking us back to 1st January, 1900. Oh, it's such an exciting time! The Victorian Era is drawing to a close, the Belle Epoque is just starting, and the world of ballet is full of thrilling innovation!

Now, you might be thinking "Emma, that's ages ago! How can we wear pink tutus in such a time?" Fear not my darlings! We can travel back in time without compromising our pink tutu-licious fashion! It's all thanks to Magic Meg, my shimmering pink Shire horse, whose golden hooves are so fast that they literally propel us through time! You simply hop on, hold tight to my magical leather rucksack full of time-travel trinkets (the latest pick-up is a tiny, exquisite ballet shoe from the 1900s!) and voila! Off we go!

Before we embark on our journey, let's discuss this delightful date in history, shall we? Firstly, 1900 marks the dawn of a new century, a moment ripe with possibilities and change. The world is on the cusp of monumental advancements: the motorcar is just beginning to take the stage, and aeroplanes are in their early days, a whisper of the skies to come.

And speaking of change, 1900 is a key year for ballet! It's the time when the world of dance was truly undergoing a transformation, shedding the constraints of the romantic era and embracing a new wave of athleticism and expressiveness. It's a time when stars like Anna Pavlova, a radiant figure, were starting their legendary journeys and pushing the boundaries of what was considered beautiful and powerful on the stage.

Imagine our pink tutu swirling and twirling through a Parisian theatre on this very day in 1900! Just envision the exquisite chandeliers and ornate balconies, the rustle of velvet and silk as we arrive for a performance! Let me share some delightful tidbits about what was gracing the ballet world on this very date:

A Royal Delight:

It’s time for a little peek at what's playing in the grand theatres around the globe. In London, the majestic Covent Garden Theatre was abuzz, and a stunning ballet was taking center stage. La Source - this beautiful work, a dreamlike dance story filled with ethereal music, was enchanting audiences!

But we couldn't travel to the city without a quick look into the Ballet School that graced London in 1900: The famous Royal Ballet School - established just 3 years earlier! Imagine the joy, the excitement as a child danced into that hallowed space to learn the art form that would bring so much joy and artistry to the world.

Across the Channel:

Jumping onto our sparkly Magic Meg, we can easily hop over to Paris - the City of Lights. The Parisian Ballet is already renowned for its elegance and technical brilliance. The very popular "Ballet de l'Opéra" would have a dazzling lineup on their stage.

But my darlings, here’s a secret - even on 1st January 1900, you would still find people across Paris going wild over the “Can-Can” - it was such a social dance and spectacle that it even found its way into theatre productions and on the cabaret stages! I imagine a chorus line of ballerinas with bright smiles, legs and feet perfectly placed, with a delicious flair for showmanship.

But Where Will Our Pink Tutu Travel Next?

It's an incredible time, bursting with the magic of ballet's changing tides and the electrifying possibilities of a new century. Don't worry my loves, we’ll be continuing our travels in a month’s time to discover what ballet wonders are on our agenda for 1st February, 1900.
