Oh my darlings! Welcome to another fabulous escapade in time with yours truly, Emma, the pink tutu-clad ballerina blogger. Today, I'm hopping onto my dear Magic Meg, my dazzling pink, sparkly Shire horse with golden hooves and a white mane that shimmers like moonlight on a winter's eve, and we're taking a trip to 1900! Oh, it's so exciting! The thought of experiencing the world of ballet at the turn of the century fills me with utter delight! I'm already dreaming of exquisite costumes, breathtaking choreography, and the palpable excitement that hung in the air as audiences anticipated each pirouette.
I've got my trusty leather rucksack filled with my lucky pink tulle and ready to absorb the stories and treasures I find during my trip. Let's just say, it's already filling up fast with some sensational treasures. 😉
Our Destination: Paris, the Ballet Heart of the World
Where else but Paris could we possibly be headed in 1900? It's the ballet epicenter of the world! I've dreamt of seeing the famed Palais Garnier, home to the Paris Opera Ballet, since I was a little girl. Picture this: A breathtaking Neo-Baroque building with soaring columns and lavishly adorned interiors, and of course, a ballet performance worthy of its spectacular surroundings. I've even discovered a little insider secret! On this very day, 3rd March, the ballet company was presenting none other than the timeless classic La Sylphide. This tale of an enchanting sylph, a young man torn between two worlds, and a heart that longs for the ethereal, has always enchanted me. Just thinking about the ethereal beauty and intricate choreography fills me with pure excitement!
I can already see myself taking my place amidst the elegant audience, gazing upon the graceful figures flitting across the stage in their tutus, all while listening to the lilting melodies of a magnificent orchestra. A bit of me wishes I could even try out the exquisite costumes from the era - they look so intricate and elegant, with layers of tulle and embellishments, all in the most divine pastel shades, just begging to be twirled under the Parisian lights!
Ballet beyond the stage: A peek into Paris Fashion
But it wouldn’t be a trip to Paris without soaking up the fashion! You see, darling, it was the golden era of corsetry, and the women of Paris were veritable works of art. Those corseted silhouettes! The sweeping gowns with luxurious fabrics, opulent embellishments and graceful draping – a vision of elegance.
I can imagine ladies donning elaborate silk ball gowns adorned with flowers and lace. What a treat to visit the elegant Parisian boutiques filled with the most sumptuous silks, velvets and ribbons! Maybe I'll even snag some pretty pieces to add to my ballet wardrobe.
A Pink Tutu Moment... with a Parisian Twist
Of course, no trip would be complete without my very own Pink Tutu Moment! Now, darling, you already know my affection for all things pink. But I can't resist the lure of something a bit more Parisian, don't you know? Imagine, if you will: the streets of Paris, a crisp spring air blowing gently through the streets, and yours truly pirouetteing alongside the Seine, twirling and twirling until my tulle flies with the grace of a hundred ballerinas. It would be absolutely sensational, wouldn't it? A whirlwind of Parisian flair and the graceful, effortless artistry of ballet, all brought together by a splash of dazzling pink.
Until next month, my dears...
I’ll be returning to Derbyshire soon, my rucksack brimming with memories and maybe even a few vintage treasures. My dance academy performances are ramping up in preparation for my next trip, and I'll need all the grace and strength I can muster to make sure I can keep traveling through time!
