Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post #2911 – July 7th, 1903: The World of Ballet Turns a Pretty Pink!

Hello, lovelies! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-traveller, Emma, back with another dose of ballet history. Today’s journey takes us right back to July 7th, 1903, and let me tell you, the world of ballet was positively buzzing!

First things first, Magic Meg, my magnificent pink sparkling Shire horse, with her golden hooves and flowing white mane and tail, is feeling particularly spirited today. We’ve just enjoyed the most delicious picnic of strawberries and cream – I just love a good British picnic! – and the air is positively alive with anticipation for this week’s grand adventure. We’re headed to Paris, where the air is positively charged with excitement!

Now, you wouldn't believe what’s going on in the world of ballet on this glorious day! Let's hop back in time, shall we?

The year is 1903, and the ballet world is absolutely thriving. We've got the fabulous Russian Imperial Ballet, reigning supreme in St. Petersburg, performing with breathtaking virtuosity. There’s also La Scala in Milan and the Paris Opéra Ballet, which just last month, under the direction of the legendary Louis Mérante, performed a fabulous rendition of "La Source", featuring the stunning Carlotta Zambelli in the lead role. Her performance, darling, was absolutely sublime, leaving the audience enraptured! I wish you could have seen it!

Speaking of Paris, wouldn’t it be fabulous to travel in style like they do here in 1903? Can you imagine, being swept away in a horse-drawn carriage, all ruffled ribbons and grand flourishes? The fashion here is positively divine! All pastel shades and graceful silhouettes, flowing fabrics and exquisite millinery. You'll have to believe me when I tell you, Paris was and still is, a hotbed for style! It’s just impossible not to be inspired by the stunning outfits on the streets here, all the elegant ladies in their charming bonnets, and dapper gentlemen sporting dashing top hats! It’s almost like a scene straight out of a charming ballet.

And did you know, that a few weeks back, right here in Paris, the renowned dancer Anna Pavlova gave a breathtaking performance at the Théatre du Châtelet? Imagine! This young lady was truly a star in the making! And who knows, with a little help from Magic Meg’s time-travelling abilities, maybe I’ll get to meet her one day!

Now, to talk about my new discovery! I came across a tiny little gem tucked away in the Rue de Rivoli in Paris – a charming antique shop stuffed full of vintage ballet costumes! Oh my dear! One particular treasure, tucked away amidst the rows of old tutus, caught my eye – it was the most beautiful silk ribbon, a delicate shade of blush pink, hand-stitched with tiny pearls. Can you imagine? I can hardly wait to show it off in my latest blog post. And, just imagine it twirling about my little toe as I pirouette across the dance floor. Now wouldn't that be something?

The world of ballet in 1903 was a wondrous thing. We’ve had so much fun today, exploring and admiring the dazzling performances, beautiful outfits, and, of course, finding all sorts of lovely ballet treasures to add to my ever-growing collection! Remember, lovelies, every journey starts with a single step!

But remember, I am on a mission, darling! To get every single person in the world wearing a pink tutu! Why? Because pink is a beautiful, happy, empowering color that speaks of strength, joy, and, of course, a healthy dose of girlish whimsy! And there is no better way to show that than with a gorgeous, billowing, fabulous pink tutu, just like mine! So go on! Step outside your comfort zone and try one on – I know you won't regret it.

Join me again next month as I delve further into the fascinating world of ballet, from its past, to its present, and onward into the future.

Until then, happy dancing!

With a pink twist,

Emma
