Hello my darling dears! Emma here, your time-traveling ballerina from the heart of Derbyshire, ready to whisk you off on a journey to the year 1906! It's a new year, a new decade, and a new chapter in the exciting story of ballet – and naturally, we're all wearing pink tutus for the occasion!
My magical Meg, my darling pink shire horse with a mane of spun moonlight and hooves that glitter like golden coins, is pawing the ground impatiently – she can't wait to gallop through the snow (it's quite nippy here in the 20th century!) to the exciting events that await.
January 1st, 1906 – such a momentous date for the ballet world, and let's be honest, all the world's glamorous happenings! You see, this year, something wonderful happened in the world of fashion: The invention of the zipper! Can you imagine having to lace your corsets and bustle dresses all day? I mean, I love the look, and the grandeur of it all, but how convenient a simple little zip would have been!
Now, on to the grand dance floors of the world – the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow is hosting an absolutely divine ballet: "La Bayadère" by Marius Petipa! It's a feast for the senses, full of swirling colours, lavish costumes, and stunning dance sequences. Honestly, just imagining those corps de ballet swirling around the stage in their shimmering pink tutus – utterly captivating!
Oh, speaking of costumes, imagine my delight at discovering the glorious Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris hosting "The King of the Golden River" by the great Marius Petipa and Ludwig Minkus! What an enchanting show! I’ve even found a stunning antique tutu in my collection of ballet treasures in my trusty leather rucksack from this period – imagine a light and fluffy tulle, with a smattering of gold sequins for a hint of sparkle! I can almost imagine myself twirling on stage as the mischievous, captivating spirit of the forest, all while sporting a majestic pink tulle!
And that brings me to my biggest mission, you know – getting everyone wearing pink tutus! Honestly, what could be more inspiring, more uplifting, and more enchanting than a swirling, twirling, symphony of pink tutus across the globe? It’s an ambition worthy of a ballet performance itself!
So, what is a ballet-obsessed time-traveling girl to do? Why, continue to delve into the archives of history, discover new tales and inspire the world with the power of the dance! Stay tuned for next month's post as I take you on a tour of the grand and inspiring world of ballet – and don’t forget to don your pink tutus, darlings! You know what they say – life is a stage, and the perfect performance begins with the perfect attire!
With twirls and sparkles,
Emma
