Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, my darling dancers! This month, we’re swirling back in time to 12th December, 1906, and oh my, the ballet world was alive with excitement! My little pink heart is beating like a hummingbird’s wings just thinking about it.
This time, Magic Meg and I galloped into the heart of the 20th Century (but just before it started, haha!). Magic Meg, with her gleaming white mane and tail, looks so fetching in her pink, glittering saddle cloth – just imagine the heads turning when we’re on a shopping spree! This trip is going to be particularly fabulous, because not only am I going to be learning about a truly sensational ballet performance, but I’m also going to see some of the most wonderful, exquisite costumes of the era. My dear friends, prepare yourselves for a feast for the eyes!
My trusty rucksack is ready, waiting to be filled with ballet treasures - maybe a forgotten program, perhaps a feather boa (who could resist a boa!), and definitely a few whispers of the exciting ballet stories happening back in 1906!
Speaking of stories, let me tell you, December 12th, 1906, was a truly special date. Anna Pavlova, the legendary ballerina who truly embodies the beauty of the graceful art, was touring across Europe! She graced the stage with her ethereal beauty in Paris that night, with a ballet that just has to be seen – the classic "Giselle"! Now, I can only imagine the audience gasping and clapping their hands in sheer delight. They simply must have been mesmerized!
Think of it, my dears! Pavlova’s elegant movements, her impeccable technique, the mesmerizing fluidity of her movements... All of that under the glittering chandeliers, under a starry Paris sky! Oh, I am simply longing to experience such an extraordinary ballet performance!
As if that wasn’t exciting enough, another fabulous ballerina was gracing the stage! Tamara Karsavina, one of my all-time favourites! She was enchanting audiences at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, in London. Just imagine it - stepping into that gorgeous theatre with its rich history and glamour.
Oh, but wait! There's more! Another enchanting event happened on this very same day! In the heart of Russia, the Ballet Russes were gearing up to put on another spectacular production. They’re renowned for their magnificent spectacles, a truly captivating mixture of traditional Russian ballet, beautiful costumes and breathtaking choreography. Can you just imagine how thrilled I'd be to see this dazzling ensemble of dancers?
However, my lovelies, this isn’t all! This incredible period, 1906, was a real melting pot of dance styles, of innovations and fresh interpretations. The art of ballet was on the rise! And I’m going to dive head-first into the heart of it!
To get my own dancing fix, I’ll head straight to the studios to see what classes they're offering. What fabulous moves and techniques they must have learned back then. My darling readers, perhaps I'll even learn a step or two myself, in tribute to this inspiring period!
So, here I go, darling friends, off to the heart of 1906 with Magic Meg, to the world of ballet history. Who knows what treasures await us there! Will I bring back a stunning boa for my ballet wardrobe? Will I stumble upon the secret of Pavlova’s enchanting movements? Perhaps I’ll find a tiny bit of magic in this world, or maybe, just maybe, inspire someone to wear a beautiful pink tutu!
Whatever happens, I'll be back here next month with my new adventures and another dose of all things pink and tutu-rific!
See you next time, my precious lovelies! And don't forget to wear pink!
Love,
Emma
