Pink Tutu Time Travels: 8th August 1907 - The Ballet's a-Booming!

Hello darlings! Emma here, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! It's the 8th of August 1907, and as always, I'm here to whisk you away on a trip through time, all with a sprinkle of pink tutu magic. This month, I've travelled all the way back to the Edwardian era – a period where the world of ballet was positively exploding with exciting developments! It was a time of dazzling creativity and a surge in interest in the art form that I, for one, find utterly captivating!

And my trusty steed, Magic Meg, the most dazzling shire horse you've ever seen with her pearly white mane and tail and golden hooves, is absolutely gleaming under the August sun! She practically glows, which is quite the challenge when your own outfit is competing with a shocking pink tutu, my absolute favourite colour! (Although I'm currently thinking about a blush pink number… whispers just an idea! But definitely sticking to the pink spectrum – no other colour will do!)

London Calling: Ballet and a Dash of Society

Now, I've just arrived in London – quite the whirlwind trip with Meg - and it's time to check out the bustling scene at the Royal Opera House. Oh, the excitement! I must say, I was rather thrilled to see that the Diaghilev Ballets Russes are performing their enchanting repertoire at the Royal Opera House. The Ballets Russes, darling, are the epitome of groundbreaking choreography and dazzling costumes – quite the affair. It’s so exhilarating to watch the world’s most innovative dance talent! You can just feel the electric energy in the air - just incredible!

And as I peruse the papers, I can’t help but see a full page dedicated to a gala performance! This isn't your run-of-the-mill ballet, oh no, it's for charity and the guests are positively crème de la crème. The crème of society, naturally. Imagine! Imagine the stunning dresses and the gossip in the wings! You bet I'm adding a scoop of London society news into my leather rucksack, the best place to keep all my time travel stories and treasures.

Beyond the London Stage: A Ballet Spree Across Europe

But I mustn’t linger in one place too long! After all, a pink tutu doesn’t stay put! Magic Meg is pawing the ground, ready to whisk me across Europe. We are about to set sail, a lovely journey ahead. As we voyage, I can't wait to check on the blossoming scene in St Petersburg, Russia. Imagine a dazzling tableau of ballerinas on the grandest stages! It's pure artistry. I've heard that the Russian school of ballet, steeped in tradition, has produced some of the most extraordinary dancers - their technique is just perfection. And don't even get me started on the sumptuous costumes – pure extravagance! Oh, my, my - there are stories begging to be collected here, which is just wonderful.

Fashion Forward! A Tutus-ific Trend!

Let’s talk about fashion, shall we? The ballet has become a powerful influence in 1907. It's not just about performance, but it's shaping women's style. Those stunning "Tutu skirts," inspired by our beloved ballerina garment, are sweeping across society. Ladies are wearing them to formal balls, picnics, and even a spot of afternoon tea! You simply can't miss this charming fashion trend – it's a beautiful nod to our lovely ballerina world! And let’s not forget the graceful flowing silks and delicate embellishments that adorn everything from elegant hats to fashionable gowns! Oh, darling, this era has style written all over it – just wait until I take Magic Meg to a lovely fashion house and have her decked out in the very latest. (Meg, don't you just love having matching ribbon bows in your mane?)

Finding Beauty in Every Corner

I'm constantly in awe of this incredible time period - it is overflowing with ballet passion, artistic inspiration, and breathtaking elegance. Even my pink tutu, I swear, feels a little more special amidst the stunning surroundings! And let’s not forget the fantastic opportunity to fill my backpack full of the most extraordinary treasures: beautiful books on ballet history, charming theatre programs, and the occasional glimpse into society - which, trust me, always offers the most fascinating stories!

My ballet love takes me on extraordinary journeys, every single month. Every adventure gives me more passion for ballet, more stories to share, and even more enthusiasm to encourage every single one of you to slip on a pink tutu and let your inner ballerina shine! And do let me know - is pink your favorite too? Share your ballet passions with me, let's continue spreading the pink tutu love all across the world!

As always, see you next month on Pink Tutu Time Travels!

Until then, dance beautifully and always be a bit bold!

Love, Emma
