Pink-Tutu Blog Post #2982: June 6th 1909 - The Ballet of the Beautiful

Oh darling, what a month! This time around, Magic Meg and I have journeyed to a time where ballet truly seemed like a magical art. Imagine this, ladies - the world was abuzz with the most stunning tutus, intricate sets, and stories that spun a tale of pure magic! June 6th 1909, and my little ballet heart just overflowed!

As a little girl growing up in Derbyshire, I always dreamed of travelling through time and soaking up all those delicious ballet histories. You can imagine my delight when I discovered Magic Meg! This incredible pink shire horse with sparkling golden hooves and a white mane as fluffy as a meringue just took my breath away. Every month she carries me to a new era of ballet bliss! And this month, oh darling, the trip was simply divine!

We landed in the heart of Paris, which at that time, was just buzzing with excitement. You know, the City of Lights? Imagine the most beautiful streets you've ever seen, lit with a twinkle in the air. Now add in a sprinkle of elegance, flowing silks and luxurious carriages, and you'll have a picture of Paris back in 1909!

But the most incredible thing? On this day in Paris, a magnificent show was unfolding on stage, at the Opéra Garnier. It was none other than the renowned Ballets Russes, showcasing the enchanting 'Le Pavillon d'Armide' by Michel Fokine.

Let's just say, the tutus! Absolutely breathtaking! They were this wonderful, soft pink, adorned with sparkling beads and ribbons, and as the dancers gracefully waltzed on stage, it was as if the very fabric of time seemed to whisper about an era of elegant beauty.

Oh, and let's not forget the dancers. They were graceful like swans, leaping with strength and delicacy that had me spellbound. And the costumes! They were as intricate as lacework, each detail capturing the imagination.

But beyond the costumes and the movements, I discovered the stories. ‘Le Pavillon d'Armide’ tells the tale of love, magic, and deceit. As I watched the drama unfold on stage, it was clear why it captured the hearts of audiences in Paris, London, and across Europe.

But the evening didn't end there. It was a true celebration of ballet! Afterwards, we enjoyed a divine champagne in a grand café. You could see it was all the rage then! I, of course, looked my absolute best in my favourite pink tutu, which seemed to complement the Parisian atmosphere perfectly! And do you know, it just made me think that every woman can look like a ballerina - we just need to wear a pink tutu!

As I wander through these magnificent time periods, I fill my rucksack with treasured memorabilia and snippets of history that I bring back for my readers! This time, I picked up a little program from ‘Le Pavillon d’Armide,’ and a wonderful photograph of one of the principal dancers. Maybe it’ll inspire a pink tutu trend!

Remember ladies, life is a ballet. So let’s keep dancing, dreaming, and always remember to put on our pink tutus - the more we wear them, the more our dreams will sparkle!
