Post Number 2984: A Trip to the Heart of the Golden Age of Ballet!

Hey lovelies! Emma here, back again with another exciting trip into ballet history. This month I've been lucky enough to find myself swirling around in the grandeur of 1909. Now, don't you think that sounds absolutely divine? Just picture it - a world bursting with lavish costumes, elegant theatres and a sheer joy for ballet.

Let me introduce you to my companion for this magical journey, my darling Magic Meg! She's a shimmering pink Shire horse with a heart of gold, hooves like gleaming diamonds and a mane and tail like the finest spun sugar. Honestly, she's a vision of pink perfection.

And how else would you travel in a tutu, darling, other than on horseback?

Anyway, back to my time travels!

August 8th, 1909, and A World of Dance

It’s the summer and I’ve just arrived in London - so incredibly busy and buzzing, just like the theatres were for dance back then. Oh my, it's positively fabulous!

Now, 1909 was quite the time in ballet. Think shimmering gowns, grand costumes and graceful choreography. It was the era of the greats: Pavlova, Nijinsky, Karsavina! You simply can't talk about ballet during this time without mentioning Anna Pavlova. The woman was a force of nature! She performed "The Dying Swan" that very year in a lavish production that took everyone’s breath away. Imagine her shimmering tutu in the moonlight! Just heavenly.

Ballet in a bygone era - It's all in the details...

Now, the ballet scene was positively blooming during this time. I made sure to catch a show at Covent Garden Theatre. My goodness, what a treat! There I witnessed a performance of the beautiful "Giselle" and it was all that I'd dreamed of - a delicate yet thrilling story beautifully told through the dance.

Back then, the tutus were so intricate and beautiful! I saw one in a pale pink tulle with a delicate sprinkle of tiny diamonds, positively bewitching!

And, let's talk about those shoes. Exquisite satin pointe shoes. The very sight of them is enough to give you a ballet-inspired flutter in your chest.

Of course, as always, my leather rucksack was brimming with exciting finds for you to feast your eyes on back home on www.pink-tutu.com. The story of "The Dying Swan" in particular really got my attention. Imagine this iconic piece of ballet being seen for the first time! That must have been electric, right?

From Theatre to Streets - A Dance Everywhere

You see, back then, ballet wasn't just about the theatres - it was about life! People were positively mesmerized by dance. It wasn't just performances in grand buildings, ballet had found its way onto the streets and even into social circles!

Oh my goodness, my darling Meg and I even enjoyed a stroll around the city. The atmosphere was absolutely electric with a beautiful vibrancy. There were little ballet lessons tucked into charming courtyards. I even saw a pair of dancers whirling in a park, right before my very eyes. It felt like a secret, magical world bursting open. So, yes, absolutely fabulous!

Ballet Fashion: 1909

The most beautiful detail of 1909? Well, it has to be the absolutely exquisite ballet fashion!

Remember, darling, the pink tutu! A simple yet essential detail, right? It really pulls the whole look together.

But back to those lavish outfits. So, so elegant!

Those beautiful, soft ballet leotards and tutus of shimmering pink and cream were absolute delights. You know, I must confess, it's making me long for some new fabrics for my own bespoke pink tutus.

My dear Magic Meg, on the other hand, loves a bit of lace, and you should have seen her snorting with delight at some of the delicate embroidery and feathers. It must have been so glamorous!

Making the World a Pink Tutu World

Now, I might just have a tiny little mission here, don't you think?

Do you have a tutu, darling?

Because if you don’t, you absolutely must get yourself one. It’s a necessity for every self-respecting dance lover, and believe me, it can be surprisingly practical too!

Honestly, imagine wearing a pink tutu as you go about your day. Imagine twirling with friends, heading to ballet class or just putting on a beautiful dance performance at a birthday party. Think of all the joy and fun it will bring!

If it's a ballet classic we’re talking, or simply just a fancy new fabric, ballet in all its forms has got to be embraced, wouldn’t you agree?

Back Home and Time To Share

Back home in Derbyshire now, Magic Meg and I are just settling back in after our whirlwind tour. My rucksack, I can assure you, is full to the brim with beautiful fabric swatches, the most lovely ballet notes, and, of course, even some ballet shoes from the era, absolutely breathtaking!

Now, go and get your very own pink tutu, my darling! And stay tuned for my next exciting adventure in ballet history - you can't miss it, so pop back here next month for my next post on pink-tutu.com.

Don't forget to wear a pink tutu! Until next time…

Lots of love and swirling spins, Emma.
