Pink Tutu Time Travel: 3rd March 1911 – A Ballet Ball in Vienna!

Hello lovelies! Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad, time-travelling ballerina, back from a whirl through history with my darling Meg, the most fabulous pink sparkling shire you ever did see! This month, we're twirling back to 3rd March, 1911, for a soirΓ©e of such magnificence, it simply had to be shared.

Vienna. Oh Vienna! The very air hums with waltz melodies, the streets thrum with excitement, and the grand salons are bursting with the finest of Austrian society – and the very best of ballet, of course! Now, darling readers, picture this: an opulent ball, the air thick with anticipation. Guests swish in elaborate gowns, shimmering in jewel tones. But among the dazzling diamonds and decadent lace, a single pink tutu pops! That is my pink tutu, darling!

We arrived in a flurry of tulle and glitter, a tiny flash of pink amidst the grandeur. Magic Meg, naturally, was the talk of the evening, with her glistening coat, flowing mane, and those gorgeous golden hooves! She knows just where to take me – straight to the centre of the ballroom, where the waltz is in full swing.

The dancing – pure poetry! So light, so graceful, such incredible technique! I absolutely adored watching the ladies pirouette and the gentlemen hold them with such charm and respect. Their dresses were just delightful – long, flowing skirts, embroidered with flowers and pearls, their hair styled high with feather boas. There were some wonderfully elegant ball gowns, quite unlike what you might see at a modern ballet gala!

As I was swept up in the merriment, I spotted the star of the evening – a young, stunning ballerina by the name of Tilly Losch. Her technique was simply exquisite! So strong, so elegant. Tilly was at the pinnacle of her career and it was inspiring to witness her artistry! You could tell that her every movement was deeply felt – and of course, I was completely in awe.

A quick peek into the ballet company’s dressing room, and I realised these were truly pioneering ballerinas! The training was rigorous, but the spirit of the dancers was inspiring. The passion for dance truly resonated with me. I filled my little leather rucksack with stories and snippets of their rehearsals. Every little thing, every detail - these treasures are what bring history alive.

The dance of the evening, however, wasn't just in the grand ballrooms. Vienna in 1911 was pulsating with the energy of "Ballet Russes". This was a troupe of revolutionary dancers, led by the remarkable Serge Diaghilev. It was an exhilarating time for ballet – new techniques, shocking costumes, and revolutionary interpretations of classical stories. They were breaking boundaries, pushing the limits, and sparking a dance craze like nothing seen before!

My visit to Vienna was more than just dancing – it was about the art and the craft of ballet. I felt the influence of this glorious city upon these young talents – their passion and dedication was contagious! It was so inspiring to see such young artists taking on the world, leaving their mark on dance history.

Of course, it's not all ballet and time travel for this girl! My life is also full of fashion, music, and the sheer joy of life! I simply love exploring, taking a peek into history's dress boxes and fashion cabinets, and finding a perfect tutu, be it a delicate silk masterpiece, a romantic tutu with layers and layers of tulle, or something just a touch on the more mischievous side. I’m a girl with a love for every shade of pink – even a hint of coral – it's my favourite color for a reason. It’s energetic and cheerful, a reminder to embrace the sparkle and twirl through life!

And speaking of sparkle, I've got a special treat for you this month – a glimpse into my newest dance fashion finds:

The Perfect Pink Tutu for 1911: Remember that dance ball I told you about? Imagine the grandeur of Vienna! Well, the latest tutu I found is an ode to the ballrooms, the silks, the sequins and the glitter. Made from a soft, shimmering pink silk, with a beautiful cascade of tulle, it is reminiscent of a Vienna sunset – a pink explosion of gorgeousness!

A Glimpse of the Ballet Russes: I found the most fabulous sequined bodice at a vintage shop – a nod to Diaghilev's innovative costumes for Ballet Russes. It’s embellished with pearls and fringes – a perfect combination of art nouveau and Parisian elegance. And the best bit – it’s a bright coral! I know, a little bit daring, but just gorgeous.

So there you have it, darling readers! My trip to Vienna was simply wonderful! Now I’m off to Derbyshire for some tea and scones with my mama. Always a delight!

But you know that even as I take a moment to sip my tea and chat about our Derbyshire delights, my thoughts are on my next pink-tutu adventure – a dance journey into the future, a time warp of whirlwind twirls, a magical adventure in a perfect pink tutu.

Until next time!

With love,

Emma.
