Pink Tutu Time Travel: March 3rd 1914! (Post #3039)

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travel! It's Emma here, your favourite Derbyshire-born ballerina, ready to whisk you away on another fabulous journey through time. This month, my trusty steed, the gorgeous Magic Meg - she's a pink-sparkling Shire, by the way, with the most incredible golden hooves and flowing white mane - galloped us to 3rd March 1914!

Now, let's dive right in, shall we? The year 1914 was brimming with exciting things! There was so much going on in the world of ballet that it felt like stepping onto the stage of a grand spectacle. Just picture it: The world teetered on the edge of change, but in those Parisian theatres and grand opera houses, ballet twirled on, radiating pure, beautiful artistry.

Before we even think of the performances, I have to tell you about the fashions, oh my dears! Imagine my delight as Magic Meg galloped through the streets of Paris! Parisian women were positively bursting with stylish flair, their hats were marvels, and their dresses were simply divine. And even in 1914, you can’t tell me those wide skirts weren’t secretly a little bit tutu-inspired, right?

As for our little pink-tutu-clad ballerina (that's me, obviously!), I just adored being enveloped in the energy of Parisian fashion. The shops were overflowing with gorgeous satins, silks, and delicate lace. I bought enough material for a dozen tutus! Pink, of course, is my favourite colour. (Who would have thought, eh?) But honestly, I couldn’t resist a few exquisite velvet gowns, too. And don't even get me started on the divine hats! Feather boas, beaded trimmings, and charming, little veiled fascinators – they were a delight for the eyes!

Right then, enough of the fashions (but trust me, darlings, there's much more to talk about!). On this day, I went to see a performance of Diaghilev's "Spectre de la Rose." You see, darling, "Spectre de la Rose" isn't just any ballet; it’s pure magic! The Ballets Russes, a sensation even in 1914, created a whirlwind of stunning visuals, costumes, and passionate movements that brought a blush to my cheeks. Imagine my delight when a troupe of ballet dancers swirled before my eyes, with costumes designed by none other than the legendary Leon Bakst, adorned in a mesmerizing symphony of colours, especially shades of pink, my favourite.

Now, I know what you're thinking – those wonderful tutus and ballet outfits would be the perfect thing to add to my collection in my leather rucksack. And, oh my, am I right! Imagine, darlings, owning a little bit of history right on your shoulders! In the realm of ballet, "Spectre de la Rose" marked a pivotal point, blending beauty and dance in ways that felt revolutionary for the time. It was a bold, enchanting expression of artistry.

It was on this 3rd of March 1914, right in the heart of Paris, that I discovered a small ballet studio nestled amongst the bustling shops. I popped in and, oh my, was I in heaven! They had little ribbons of pink fabric scattered around and the ballerina class was wearing tiny, lovely pink slippers! How perfect is that?! A vision of pink, absolutely captivating. My darling Meg and I then continued through the grand cobblestone streets of Paris, the spirit of the performance lingering in my heart.

If there’s one thing you can count on when it comes to the world of ballet, it’s that it’s a whirlwind of creativity! And as I continue my adventures through the annals of time, I can’t help but be in awe of how this beautiful dance form has captured hearts, ignited passion, and shaped art history itself.

So, what’s next on my ballet time travel journey? Who knows? I can tell you this, my lovely pink tutu will be a part of it, along with Magic Meg, and all my lovely blog readers like you! Remember, we only meet on this blog once a month so stay tuned for more fascinating tidbits from my world of pink tutus and exciting ballet journeys!

Until then, darlings!

With love,

Emma.
