Hey beautiful ballet lovers, welcome back to my little corner of the internet, Pink Tutu! Itβs July the 7th and it's time for another dose of ballet history with your favourite time travelling tutu-tastic blogger! This month, weβre setting our time machine for 1914, a year buzzing with change, new styles and exciting ballets! π
This month, we're stepping out of Derbyshire for an extra-special adventure, riding Magic Meg, my shimmery pink Shire, to two of the most fabulous cities in the world β London and Paris! As soon as I saw the date on the old Time Travel Wheel, I knew I had to visit these magical ballet hotspots. Imagine, all the incredible performances, exquisite fashions, and groundbreaking choreographers... I couldn't wait! π€©
I saddled up Magic Meg and off we went, our pink tutu trailing in the wind! We were whisked through the years, stopping at the beautiful Victorian train station at Derby, then on through the lush countryside to a charming little village just outside London. After all, you know what they say - "a good ballerina never travels without her proper luggage" and I was going to be needing that pink rucksack of mine. It's jam packed with notebooks, cameras, and little treasures that Iβm going to be collecting for my personal ballet museum back in Derbyshire - if I ever actually make it back, that is! π
But first, it was London and time to catch the latest ballet performances. Can you believe the legendary Sadler's Wells Theatre in London was just about to host the premiere of βThe Miracle' ballet by Russian dancer and choreographer Michel Fokine?! That's the same one who helped shape the world of ballet with the Ballets Russes! My notes tell me this dance tells a whimsical, romantic story through innovative choreography and dreamy music. Just my kind of ballet! π
This visit wasn't all about ballet though. It wouldn't be right to visit 1914 London without a shopping spree! Oh my, the fashion was sensational! Imagine silk frocks adorned with intricate beading and lace, stylish hats that seemed to reach for the stars, and elegant shoes with little kitten heels... absolutely heavenly. π My personal favourite had to be the pastel-hued skirts with little ruffles. That 1914 Parisian chic has such an effortlessly chic flair to it!
And speaking of chic, how about Paris! The City of Lights! Imagine walking past iconic monuments like the Eiffel Tower, sipping cafΓ© au lait at charming Parisian cafes, and, of course, catching an exciting performance! My oh my, we've got more to look forward to! The Opera Garnier in Paris - it's simply majestic! Did you know that the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet were just putting on a production of "Giselle" on the 7th of July?! This story is just so moving and heart-wrenching! Talk about passionate dance drama! ππ
Now, as I sit here writing this in my favourite spot by the river Derwent, surrounded by butterflies and wildflowers, Iβm filled with inspiration from the ballet history I've gathered today. Just remembering that delicate, fluid, and magical ballerina of 1914 London and Paris gets me in the mood to get my pink tutu twirling for you guys! So, remember, darlings: whether it's the world of fashion or the world of dance, we all have our own story to tell. Just embrace the sparkle of life and always, always, follow your dreams. After all, a life without ballet, beautiful things, and good times with friends? That's a life we just can't have. And always, darling girls, donβt forget the pink tutus! π©°π
See you soon in our little online ballet corner,
Emma xxx
