Hello darling tutu enthusiasts! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where we journey through time, fuelled by pink tutus and a whole lot of glitter! I'm Emma, your friendly neighbourhood time-travelling ballerina, and this month, I'm taking you on a grand adventure to Paris, 1916!
Post Number: 3071
As always, I've got Magic Meg, my trusty steed, saddled up and ready to gallop through the annals of history! Sheâs looking particularly fetching in her pink satin saddle cloth today, complete with sparkling crystals that match my own tutu perfectly! Oh, speaking of which, my darling tutu for this escapade is an absolute dream! A delicate blush pink with gossamer layers that rustle ever so beautifully, perfect for twirling and dipping with a Parisian flair. I simply couldn't resist pairing it with a beautiful black velvet bodice and satin gloves - a bit of old world glamour never hurts, wouldn't you agree?
The weather in Paris today is positively crisp, a touch of chill in the air but the sun is still a gorgeous golden orb that illuminates the cobbled streets. I'm on the way to the Grand Théùtre de lâOpĂ©ra, my backpack filled with exciting Parisian finds - vintage ballet sketches, some rather dashing vintage fashion magazines and of course, an old postcard of a stunning ballerina, her tutu resembling a swirling cloud of tulle!
Now, before we reach the grand opera house, let's discuss what's happening in the world of ballet today, 11th November 1916!
In Paris, things are bustling in the ballet world despite the tumultuous events of the First World War raging just beyond the city walls. The grand OpĂ©ra is in full swing, offering an array of performances including the mesmerizing âLes Sylphidesâ by Mikhail Fokine. Imagine graceful dancers clad in soft white tutus flitting about the stage, with exquisite choreography set to beautiful Chopin music - pure poetry in motion! I can't wait to see it, darling!
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the United States is experiencing a dance craze known as "The Glide"! Itâs all the rage, with men and women swaying to waltz tunes, and even being incorporated into stage performances! Can you picture it? I might just give it a go with my new silk dance slippers later!
I'm practically bouncing in my saddle as I reach the OpĂ©ra, the building standing tall and elegant, its grandeur illuminated by the setting sun. Itâs the sort of architecture that would inspire the most fantastical ballet choreography, wouldn't you agree? I slip Magic Meg into a stable in the rear courtyard, tucking in some sugar cubes for good measure. After all, sheâs the very best, my pink tutu partner in crime, a loyal companion who makes my time-travelling adventures possible.
Inside the grand theatre, the air hums with anticipation. The lights are dim, and the plush red velvet seats are filled with elegant Parisian ladies in their beautiful gowns and feathered hats, and distinguished gentlemen sporting dapper suits. I'm surrounded by an array of colourful feathers, glittering jewellery and charming, stylish chatter. I slip into a seat, taking in the atmosphere, trying not to look too out of place.
Now, let me tell you, the performance is absolutely exquisite. Every twirl, every graceful movement, every perfectly placed step tells a story, making this beautiful ballet feel like a magical, enchanted dream. The dancers simply swirl across the stage, creating scenes that are so enchanting, so breathtaking!
My heart is soaring. It's a symphony of emotion - pure joy, awe and a profound love of ballet coursing through my veins. Iâm a puddle of tears, captivated by the beauty of it all. This moment? Itâs why I do what I do. To experience ballet history, the magical stories that are born in the hearts of artists who dare to create and perform. I couldn't imagine anything more satisfying than being swept up in the exquisite beauty of it all.
As the final notes fade away, and the applause echoes throughout the theatre, I make my way back to my hotel, my mind brimming with artistic inspiration. There's no place more inspiring than Paris for a ballet enthusiast.
And speaking of inspiration, my dears, have I got a treat for you! A little bit of Parisian fashion history, perfect for adding a touch of glamorous Parisian flair to your own personal style!
1916 saw the rise of "The Gibson Girl" fashion! Think a sleek, tailored look - graceful flowing lines with a feminine touch. Imagine beautiful flapper dresses in bold, vibrant colours and delicate lace adorned bodices, perhaps topped off with a chic hat. The fashion is all about celebrating the beauty of the female form and expressing an eraâs artistic and social change! And who knows? Maybe you can even find yourself a vintage tutu from the period.
But before I go, I want you to embrace the joy of pink, my dearest readers. Grab your pink tutu, throw on a beautiful satin dress or a flamboyant flapper style frock and celebrate this incredible time period with a dance, my darling!
Remember, you too can be a time-travelling ballerina! It just takes a passion for ballet, a love for history and a little bit of magical sparkle in your eyes. Until next time, stay fabulous and keep twirling!
Your darling pink-tutu-loving ballerina,
Emma.
