Hello darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-clad time traveller. It’s that time of the month again – time to slip on my sparkly pink tutu, climb onto my magical steed, Meg, and journey back in time! This month, we're hopping across the channel and venturing into the glamorous, pulsating heart of 1920s Paris. Can you even imagine? Think flapper dresses, feather boas, jazz, and oh, the fashion! I'm positively giddy with excitement, darlings!
This February 2nd, 1920, feels like a special occasion, even though nothing particularly notable seems to be happening in the ballet world on this date (though I'm still scanning my little leather satchel, always hoping for a hidden gem).
Now, imagine my delight as we arrive in the French capital, the smell of croissants wafting from charming cafes, cobbled streets bustling with life, and the iconic Eiffel Tower glistening against the blue Parisian sky. It's truly the perfect setting for a chic soirée, wouldn't you agree?
While there are no official ballet events planned for today, we can indulge in the city's vibrant arts scene. The Parisian theatre world is in full swing, buzzing with the likes of the renowned Comédie Française, offering theatrical performances that echo the spirit of the time - romantic, elegant, and a tad scandalous! And who wouldn't love a bit of Parisian theatre on a Tuesday night, am I right?
But our soirée doesn’t end there! Even in the 1920s, Paris was known for its opulent ballrooms, the dance floors shimmering with sequined dresses and feather-trimmed gowns. Can you imagine a dance party bursting with energy, filled with the intoxicating tunes of a jazzy orchestra, and a whole room filled with elegant gentlemen in crisp suits?
My bag, darling, my bag is bursting with a pink feathered boa and a glittering headband, because there’s no way I'm missing out on a chance to waltz in this time period. You bet your bottom dollar I’ll be adding a Parisian-inspired waltz routine to my ballet class this month! I imagine the beautiful women in the audience, sporting elaborate flapper dresses with intricate embroidery, a whisper of French perfume lingering in the air. Honestly, darlings, a ballerina needs a Parisian night like this every now and then to recharge those creative batteries!
Speaking of creative batteries, remember our last visit to the 1950s, and that charming boutique filled with vintage pink tutus and adorable ballet flats? Well, today I'm heading for Rue de Rivoli in search of some unique fashion inspiration. You never know what gems you might find tucked away in vintage shops! A silk scarf for Meg, perhaps? Or maybe a tiny flapper-inspired hat for my pink tutu collection!
Honestly, darling, sometimes I think time travel is even better than attending the Royal Opera House, if that's even possible. Every single moment holds a new and captivating story, waiting to be discovered! From elegant gowns and jazz music to cobbled streets and the tantalising aroma of fresh bread, my time travel journey is shaping up to be absolutely magical!
But for now, darlings, I'll bid you adieu, as my soirée awaits! I’ll be sure to share some snapshots of my Parisian escapade with you all.
Keep sparkling,
Emma Xx
