Hello my lovely pink-tutu-loving readers! Welcome back to my monthly time travels! November is always a lovely time for ballet, donāt you think? It's getting chilly and the evenings are drawing in, but the theatres are warm and welcoming. Perfect for some truly magical ballet!
This month, I've been whisked back to November 11th, 1924. Just picture it - a crisp autumn air, the scent of bonfires in the air, and me, twirling in my shimmering pink tutu, riding Magic Meg (my gorgeous, sparkly pink Shire horse, with his golden hooves and white mane) through the streets. I feel so at home on Meg; he carries me like a cloud.
Of course, the streets of 1924 looked a little different than the ones Iām used to in Derbyshire. The cars were less flashy, and there was a real hustle and bustle everywhere, with horses and carriages a common sight.
This trip's adventure has taken me all over the globe - London, New York, Paris - I even had a go at some exciting travelling by ocean liner to catch a spectacular performance in St Petersburg! Now thatās what I call travelling in style!
But back to 11th November 1924...what's happening in the ballet world, you ask? Well, darling, let me tell you!
A Ballet Feast for the Eyes and Soul
The most thrilling news for a ballet fanatic like myself? A whole feast of productions is on across the globe! In London, Diaghilevās Ballets Russes is captivating audiences at the Coliseum with a lavish staging of "Le Sacre du Printemps" by Stravinsky. I just adore that score ā so thrilling! In New York, the beautiful Pavlova was enchanting the crowds with her captivating solo work - pure magic. I have a special affinity with Anna Pavlova - she inspired my love for ballet when I first caught a glimpse of her on a time-travel visit. What a magnificent ballerina! And letās not forget Paris! I found myself caught up in a world of swirling skirts and incredible French style at the OpĆ©ra Garnier, watching Nijinsky and Karsavina grace the stage in "Scheherazadeā.
But ballet is not just for the big city theatres, my dears! This journey has also allowed me to soak in the energy of so many smaller stages. A particularly enchanting performance, a beautiful adaptation of Swan Lake, in Moscow. In St. Petersburg, I had a truly lovely afternoon experiencing the delicate work of the Mariinsky Theatre, where I watched ballerinas train in their studios, marveling at their dedication to their art.
The Beauty of Ballet Fashion
And what about ballet fashion, you ask? 1924 saw some remarkable styles on and off the stage! Imagine delicate lace tutus and sparkling costumes with beautiful layers of soft tulle. There was something wonderfully feminine in those designs, a world of delicate pastel hues and delicate trims - just like a pretty ballet flower in full bloom.
Of course, I can't talk about 1924 ballet fashion without mentioning my new discovery - the gorgeous ballet shoes on sale in Londonās famous Harrods department store! Imagine dancing around in the beautiful pink ballet slippers they had on display! I couldnāt resist adding a few to my rucksack to take home as souvenirs. (Do let me know if anyone would be interested in them - they are gorgeous! Just leave me a comment on www.pink-tutu.com - Iāll add them to my online ballet shop).
A Pink Tutu Inspiration
I do love discovering the stories and traditions surrounding the world of ballet. As you know, my little rucksack, a soft, beautiful, well-worn leather creation, holds my time travel souvenirs: snippets of choreography, ballet shoes, ticket stubs - you name it, itās in there! It helps keep the memories alive long after my journey is over.
And my dear readers, there's no time travel journey without a little "pink tutu inspiration" ā my motto in life, you know! From the graceful swishing of tulle skirts to the delicate touch of a pointe shoe on stage, every moment inspires me to keep spreading the pink tutu love! It is just such a versatile and joyous look! Donāt you agree?
I even caught a few girls in 1924 attempting to make their own tutus! That truly melted my heart! It shows you, pink tutus and the joy of dance are universal. So remember, my dears, a little pink tutu magic can make any day sparkle!
That's it for this monthās time travel blog! Don't forget to join me again for my next post on www.pink-tutu.com . And if you fancy sharing some of your pink tutu adventures with me, Iād love to hear!
Keep dancing and shining,
