Pink Tutu Travels: December 12th, 1929 - The Ballet Whisperer of the Roaring Twenties! 🩰✨

Welcome back, darling readers, to Pink Tutu Travels! It's your favourite ballet-loving blogger Emma here, and oh, how I've missed you all. Time seems to fly by when you're skipping through history on the back of Magic Meg, my dazzling pink-sparkling Shire horse. We're galloping back into the archives today for another monthly installment, post number 3228!

Today we're waltzing our way back to December 12th, 1929. Imagine the scene - the Roaring Twenties in full swing, flapper dresses swaying, jazz music pulsating in the air, and a sense of electric energy everywhere you turn. Now, picture me, your charming ballerina, riding through the bustling streets on my majestic pink horse, Magic Meg, wearing a fluffy pink tutu and a smile as wide as a dancer's leap. Absolutely enchanting, don't you think?

Now, this week I'm a bit different - it’s my ballet birthday! Twelve years ago, I was graced with a pair of teeny tiny pink ballet shoes and my life changed forever. This journey, this blog, everything stems from the day I first felt the thrill of those tiny slippers on my little toes! I love you ballet!

Speaking of our favourite form of art, ballet was absolutely thriving in 1929. Did you know that The Ballets Russes, founded by the incredible impresario Serge Diaghilev, was on a whirlwind tour across the globe? Talk about living the dream! These amazing dancers, like the divine Vaslav Nijinsky, took audiences by storm with their revolutionary ballets. Can you imagine seeing The Rite of Spring or Petrushka in its original form? Now, that's a story for the ages.

And while we're on the topic of magnificent dance companies, The Royal Ballet, known back then as The Vic-Wells Ballet, was making its mark on London. Can you just picture the elegant ballerinas gliding across the stage, captivating hearts with their exquisite moves? Now that’s what I call elegance and grace!

A Touch of Old World Glamour

This month I found myself in a beautiful antique shop tucked away in a London cobbled alley. It was bursting with exquisite trinkets, but my heart was set on finding something particularly special. And you know what? My dreams came true! Nestled amongst a collection of ornate boxes was a stunning porcelain ballerina, dressed in a delicate pale pink costume, just like mine!

This precious treasure now sits in my backpack, carefully protected, awaiting a new life. It's just a glimpse into the glorious past, and I'll never forget the wonder I felt as I unearthed it. My blog wouldn't be the same without its special memories!

Tutu Trends of 1929

Ah, 1929 was the golden era for flapper dresses, cloche hats, and a bold, jazzy fashion spirit. But ballet costumes had an altogether different air - imagine diaphanous tutus in muted pastels, delicately embroidered and often paired with feathered headbands for a touch of bohemian elegance. It was a period of elegance and sophistication, with dance costumes showcasing both simplicity and delicate artistry. Oh, the beauty!

For me, my dear readers, pink is the ultimate expression of feminine power and charm, just like ballet. The shade I love for December, though, is dusty rose, a touch softer and more reflective. I think a pale pink ballet shoe is going to look oh-so elegant! It reminds me of delicate winter mornings, snowflakes dancing softly on the ground. Just like my magical journeys!

More Than Just a Dance

I adore going to ballet performances! Seeing these dancers transform on stage, it just sets my soul on fire. That incredible feeling of joy, inspiration and pure movement. Just makes you feel alive! As well as my pink tutus, it makes me smile thinking of these beautiful creatures that capture everything magical in one perfect form. Every performance, no matter the show, reminds us that we can achieve anything when we truly dedicate ourselves!

Speaking of shows, I have an absolute delight for you, my dear readers! It’s the iconic “Sleeping Beauty,” the classic fairy tale with exquisite music by Tchaikovsky, that will be performed at Covent Garden for a limited engagement! I can’t wait to watch this ballet, and how much you'd enjoy it too! Oh, how I love these stories and characters!

And there you have it! Our whistle-stop journey through December 12th, 1929, in all its glitz and glam, is coming to an end. Magic Meg and I are already off on another grand adventure, seeking more ballet treasures and inspiration from the world's most fascinating times. Until next month, keep that tutu spirit alive and don't be afraid to let your own inner ballerina shine! Don't forget to leave me your comments below, I love hearing what you have to say!
