Hello, my dearest tutu-loving darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com for another month's adventures through time! I'm Emma, your time-travelling ballerina from the heart of Derbyshire, and oh, I simply cannot wait to share my latest jaunt with you all. This time, I've ventured to 7th July 1930, and let me tell you, it's been a whirlwind of ballet brilliance and pink-hued fashion!
Now, you know my beloved steed, Magic Meg, is a shire horse with the most stunning mane and tail β white like spun sugar β and golden hooves. She's not just any horse; she's a shimmering pink horse! Yes, you heard that right. A pink horse! (Who said you can't have your dreams come true? β¨) I have to admit, we caused quite a stir riding down to the ballet world of 1930 - all the lovely folk must have thought they were seeing things!
But my time in 1930 wasn't just about causing a fashion frenzy! I delved deep into the heart of the ballet world of the time. And it turns out, July 7th, 1930, was an exceptionally busy day for dance lovers!
First, I hopped off Magic Meg (with a swish of my pink tutu, of course!), and whisked myself over to London's Coliseum Theatre where, wouldn't you know it, the brilliant Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova was performing her incredible swan ballet, Le Lac des Cygnes, which is still such a gorgeous, elegant masterpiece today! (And you know I couldn't leave without getting a signed copy of her program for my ballet rucksack!)
Anna Pavlova, she is a ballet goddess, you know! So ethereal, so light, she seemed to float across the stage. Imagine the awe in the audience's eyes β the excitement, the wonder, as she gracefully embodied the grace of a swan! That night, her artistry truly took my breath away!
My afternoon, however, took me away from the spotlight to the hustle and bustle of London's Covent Garden. I wanted to see what The Royal Opera House was like, what it looked like before its glorious restoration in 1999, and if I could find some little hidden gem for my ballet fashion collection. Let me tell you, Covent Garden in 1930 was such a treasure trove! My ballet-obsessed heart was just about to burst with excitement.
While there, I discovered the fascinating, newly-established ballet school, the Academy of Ballet, founded just four years earlier in 1926! This school, with its focus on "French classical style" ballet techniques, made a splash in the world of dance. You know me - all things ballet - and my fascination for ballet history made this a MUST-visit! My rucksack was quickly filled with fascinating little brochures and the school's magazine that I discovered in the most adorable newsagent's, housed in a building so charming it's hard to imagine it's been pulled down!
By now, the day was starting to fade into dusk, the glow of street lamps painting London's streets in a warm orange glow. You wouldn't believe what I spotted⦠a street performance of a young ballerina with a beautiful voice! I knew, I just knew, this little lass was bound for big things in the ballet world! With a dazzling pink tutu of her own, she held her audience in thrall - so graceful, so charismatic. Just magical!
And just like that, my time-traveling day came to an end! A slight tinge of regret β another day's memories gathered and filed away in my rucksack, another chapter for my ballet journal - but it wasn't a goodbye. It was just "see you later!"
And before I go, my lovely tutu-wearers, I just want to say this - wear your pink tutu with pride! Dance with your heart, and remember that ballet isn't just a style of dance; it's a way of life, a magical journey that never ends! Until next month, keep dancing, keep smiling, and keep following your dreams!
Love,
Emma www.pink-tutu.com
