Hello lovelies! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you away on another whirlwind time travel adventure. π This month, we're heading back to the glamorous, elegant world of 1931, and it's already got me swirling!
It's hard to believe this is post number 3252 on the www.pink-tutu.com website! π I just adore sharing my ballet passion with you all. So, without further ado, let's saddle up Magic Meg, our shimmering pink shire horse with those glorious golden hooves, and get travelling!
*(Oh, by the way, you wouldn't believe the fabulous tutu I snagged in a vintage shop just the other day! It's a blush pink satin number with shimmering tulle layers and delicate beadwork, simply perfect for my time travel adventures!) * πβ¨
A Century Back in Time π°οΈ1931 was a truly dazzling year for ballet! Think dazzling performances, stunning costumes, and a blossoming love for the art form. My heart is simply aflutter just thinking about it! π
Imagine this, dear readers: December 12th, 1931, the crisp winter air nipping at my toes, the smell of hot chocolate and festive cheer lingering in the air... I'm just leaving a ballet performance at the illustrious Covent Garden Opera House, my heart overflowing with the sheer magic of the performance!
Today, the Royal Ballet presented their beautiful production of "Giselle", starring the legendary Alicia Markova! I must tell you, her performance was absolutely breathtaking. The grace and power of her movements, the sheer passion pouring from her every step... I was simply captivated! β¨ You just knew she was a star, destined for greatness.
I was especially drawn to Giselle's ethereal costume, crafted from the finest white tulle and delicate silk. I've even snagged a fragment of it for my ballet treasure collection! Itβs tucked away safely in my trusty leather rucksack, along with a copy of the original programme from the night.
A Whirlwind Tour Through 1931 πAfter the show, it was off to the fashionable tea rooms on Regent Street for some afternoon tea. β The talk was all about the Royal Balletβs triumph, and a flurry of excitement for the upcoming premiere of βLa Sylphideβ. A fellow ballerina, (I do love those long ballet-trained legs and expressive eyes), told me all about how this new production promised to be a captivating experience, filled with breathtaking artistry and innovative choreography.
As evening descended, I found myself at the London Palladium. π The crowd was vibrant, a delicious mix of theatre enthusiasts and fashionistas. It was a heady mix of Parisian elegance and English chic, filled with flapper dresses, feather boas, and hats adorned with flamboyant blooms.
The Palladium, it seemed, was showcasing the enchanting "Ballets Russes" under the direction of Colonel de Basil! I tell you, Iβm positively brimming with excitement β I hear this ballet company is simply exquisite, with dancers known for their dazzling artistry, passionate expressions, and truly unique approach to choreography! π©°
Later, I made my way to the grand Savoy Theatre. Imagine! It was showcasing "The Great Waltz" - an absolute theatrical masterpiece brimming with lively waltzes, elegant choreography, and glorious sets. I simply loved the elegance of the dancing and the grandeur of the stage.
Spreading the Tutu Love πOne of my favorite parts about travelling through time, especially with my trusty Meg, is seeing how the world embraces ballet in different eras.
I find that while each generation expresses its passion for the art form in unique ways, the one thing that truly connects us is the desire for graceful movement, emotional expression, and pure artistic beauty! π
1931 is brimming with excitement about ballet, especially in England! The performances I attended are packed with dedicated fans and a whole host of famous figures β the air hums with enthusiasm and appreciation for this incredible art form.
Of course, no trip would be complete without some fabulous fashion! Oh, the divine outfits I spotted on Regent Street, filled with glamorous textures and sophisticated lines! Imagine a sleek, silk dress in an intense emerald green, cinched at the waist with a silver belt. Or a sophisticated black-and-white polka-dot ensemble paired with a fabulous feather boa β so chic! I simply had to take a peek at all the hats! They were a perfect expression of individual style and a dash of theatrical whimsy!
And of course, no trip would be complete without a stop at a classic tearoom β after all, how else would a ballerina refuel those graceful moves! π°βοΈ
My friends, I must say that this trip has left me positively glowing! I just know 1931 will forever be a treasured stop in my Time Travel Diary!
