Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post 3255 – A Twirl Back to March 3rd 1932

Hello fellow tutu-lovers! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where the past comes to life with a graceful pirouette and a dash of pink sparkle! This month, Magic Meg and I are waltzing back to the 3rd of March 1932, a time of innovation, excitement, and oh so much tutu-worthy ballet. Buckle up, darlings, because it's going to be a grand voyage!

Oh, Magic Meg is truly the most magnificent pink sparkle-covered shire horse, don't you think? She knows every nook and cranny of time, and today we're embarking on a thrilling adventure to the early 1930s, the golden age of dance! My little leather rucksack is packed and ready, eager to collect the treasures of history – ballet programmes, photographs, perhaps even a snippet of an old score.

Speaking of treasures, how stunning is this pink sequined tutu I found at the London vintage market? Perfect for waltzing through the past, wouldn't you agree? This vintage find truly embodies the spirit of ballet in 1932. It’s a symphony of silk, shimmer, and the most gorgeous shade of rose imaginable. And wouldn’t you know it, this tutu is going to be perfect for tonight’s ballet performance. My funding comes from performing ballet to an eager audience and let me tell you, I’m never without my tutu. I mean, who needs a tiara when you have a pink tutu?!

Now, back to our time travelling, imagine 1932! It was the year of the iconic Diaghilev Ballet Russes company touring the world, showcasing their groundbreaking performances to a mesmerized audience. In the heart of Europe, the most daring and visionary choreographers like George Balanchine and Sergei Diaghilev were pushing boundaries, inspiring and igniting audiences everywhere they went. This was an era that revolutionized the world of dance.

On the 3rd of March 1932, the ballet world was buzzing with excitement!

A World of Ballet:

In the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, ā€œLa Princesse de Pavieā€, a French ballet by Marie Taglioni graced the stage. It was a time when ballerinas were celebrated as stars, each with a unique style. Taglioni, with her flowing elegance and ethereal grace, captured the hearts of the London audience. Just imagine, being present for that night's performance, feeling the collective gasp when she floats onto the stage!

The iconic Ballet Russes, meanwhile, was enthralling audiences in Monte Carlo, the heart of glamorous European society. ā€œLe Sacre du Printempsā€, the masterpiece by Stravinsky – it's almost impossible to grasp the shock and controversy this ballet caused when it premiered. Just imagine the uproar, the whispers of disbelief in the theatre!

In New York, the Ballet Guild was establishing itself as a champion of American ballet, presenting ā€œLa Sonnambulaā€ by August Bournonville to much fanfare. It’s thrilling to know that a young Margot Fonteyn was beginning her legendary journey in ballet at this time. Imagine seeing her dance in this show!

The year was filled with vibrant ballet shows that have forever changed the history of ballet and dance. Ballet became the pinnacle of creativity and artistry, with each new piece exploring emotions, movements, and storylines with remarkable imagination and depth.

You know what I absolutely love about time travel? Being able to step back and watch these legendary dancers – imagine the artistry! The intricate footwork, the fluid lines of their bodies, the delicate movements and powerful gestures! They brought these tales to life, captivating the hearts of the audience and forever changing the world of dance.

I always say that ballet isn’t just about the dance, it’s about the whole experience – the music, the costumes, the incredible energy in the theatre. A pink tutu just enhances that experience! And that, my dear friends, is exactly why we're venturing back to this captivating moment in time. We are going to see ā€œLe Sacre du Printempsā€ in Monte Carlo!

Can you imagine? We are actually going to stand in that historic theatre, hear those electrifying rhythms, and see the daring and dynamic movements of this controversial masterpiece come to life. I have already planned our costumes!

The atmosphere must have been incredible! You could feel the passion, the raw energy of the music. It’s truly an amazing feeling to know we’re about to step into that exact space, hear those powerful beats, and become a part of that history!

Oh! Magic Meg is all ready to go, don’t you worry! Her sparkly pink mane is ready to twirl, and her hooves, well, they just make me feel like I can conquer the world! I think she’s almost as excited as me!

Just one last thing before we disappear. The next time you’re feeling adventurous, imagine stepping into the past. The feeling of history buzzing around you, and being surrounded by a vibrant and exciting culture of art, music, and, of course, ballet! Now, my dear tutu-lovers, it’s time to go!

Keep on dancing, keep on twirling, and see you on the other side,

Emma xxx
