Pink Tutu Time Travels: Post #3263 – 11th November, 1932!

Hello my dearest tutu-lovers! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-loving ballerina, and welcome to my little corner of the internet - where ballet dreams become reality! I’m popping in this month with my time-travelling tales, and this time I’m venturing back to a momentous date - the 11th of November 1932!

I've been itching to visit this particular date for ages! Why? Because this was the day that a legendary ballerina, one of the greats, the utterly wonderful, Margot Fonteyn, made her professional debut! Can you imagine being a young dancer just starting out and taking your first bow in front of a captivated audience? My heart flutters just thinking about it!

You see, my little darlings, this day is filled with so much magic! You just know I couldn't let it pass without taking Magic Meg, my trusty pink-sparkling shire, on a little time-travelling jaunt, right?

Oh! And before I forget, we have to talk tutus! This trip I had to make sure I donned a truly fabulous pink tutu. Now, I know I say it every time, but it was the perfect pink tutu. This one, dear friends, was a vintage piece, and I couldn’t resist collecting it from a dusty old shop in Derby the week before my adventure. Imagine, a real 1932 tutu! It was beautifully preserved, just waiting to twirl through history. With layers and layers of shimmering pink tulle and a smattering of hand-sewn sparkly sequins, it was a sheer dream! It truly added to the time travel magic.

Let’s travel back to the 11th November, shall we?

As usual, the world of ballet was absolutely buzzing this day. Imagine this! Not only was a future star about to debut, but there was also a fabulous performance of "Les Sylphides" in London! That's not all, the Bolshoi Theatre was putting on a beautiful performance of "La Bayadère". It truly feels like the universe of ballet is bursting with beautiful stories on this very day!

Imagine being able to witness these historical ballet moments! Oh, how I wished I could have seen Margot's debut in person! But alas, we weren't exactly sharing a time machine... I have my secret, you see? I take a walk down memory lane using archival photos and recordings. But that's not all, dear friends! You know I wouldn't go all the way to 1932 without snooping around for balletic treasures!

Oh! Speaking of treasure... let's pop the top off my trusty leather rucksack - it’s brimming with stories, photos and little treasures, as always, all about ballet! And as for this particular date? It’s bursting with stories, darling.

Let’s talk about what I've learned about our wonderful Ms. Fonteyn. Her professional debut, on this very day, took place at the Vic-Wells Theatre in London. Oh, what a way to start a career! She was just a teenager, a darling girl, and she made a phenomenal debut dancing as the little sprite in "The Fairy Kingdom", in a ballet choreographed by Frederick Ashton. It was one of her earliest performances for what became a career full of incredible stories and iconic moments! It seems she danced with elegance, grace, and beauty, just as any little ballerina in the pink tutus I know would wish!

She really set the world of ballet ablaze with her extraordinary talent and elegance. This is why, my dear friends, we are here, living our pink-tutued ballerina dreams and being inspired by the legacy she left! The 11th November, 1932 was the birth of an iconic ballet legend. And wouldn't you know it? My lovely rucksack contains a treasure! It’s a program from this performance! A little relic from this incredible day, passed down through time! The beautiful cover has delicate pictures and even a little program guide for the performance. My heart is simply bursting, can you feel it too, dears?

This program makes me dream of my ballet career...I picture myself in a glittering, sparkling, bright pink tutu on stage. Maybe with some pink feathers - how dreamy! Perhaps a sweet pink bouquet in hand. I’m feeling my inner prima ballerina! We’ll have to save that dream for a future post!

Of course, it's not all about performances! While on this adventure, I just had to have a peek at the latest ballet fashion, darling! The 1930s was truly a wonderful era for fashion, and ballet wear was no exception. My little eyes were delighted with some exquisite dresses in beautiful fabrics like silks, satins and chiffons, in an array of pastel colours!

So there you have it - 11th of November 1932 - an enchanting day filled with ballet, fashion and a blossoming legend. Oh, and let’s not forget a sprinkling of glitter and magic! Now, excuse me while I go write another chapter in my “Emma’s Tutu Chronicles”, with my ballet stories!

Have you ever been to a "Les Sylphides" performance? What was your favourite part? I love hearing about all of your experiences!

Remember my dear friends, stay pink and never stop believing in the power of your own tutu dreams!

See you on the pink side next month!

Much love,

Emma xxx
