Hello my darling readers! Welcome back to another edition of my pink-tutu-infused journey through time! This month, my fabulous steed, Magic Meg (with her gleaming white mane, sparkling hooves and a splash of pink glitter - she truly is a show-stopper) has taken me all the way to 4th April 1933! Now, you know me, I love a bit of history, especially when it involves the wonderful world of ballet!
Let's just say, this particular trip was overflowing with fascinating discoveries, stunning shows and some truly magnificent ballet fashion that left me utterly spellbound!
Oh, and did I mention, it's the month where we delve into the absolutely glorious world of pink in the ballet world? Yep! Itās like the entire ballet world is blushing! Think the delicate pink tulle of a ballerinaās skirt, the gentle shade of blush on her cheeks as she executes a pirouette⦠the colour is everywhere, and we shall celebrate all things pink with open arms!
First stop? London, where I discovered a delightful little performance by the famous Sadlerās Wells Ballet, they were simply divine. A mix of classic pieces and captivating contemporary works really sent shivers down my spine - you know me, I'm a sucker for a beautiful pas de deux. Did I mention they had some gorgeous tutus? Think silk and feather plumes, shimmering with silver embroidery. Truly magnificent!
One of my favourites was *āThe Haunted Ballroomā, * with an almost fairytale atmosphere. Itās almost like we stepped into a story book, with delicate pastel colours, haunting music and, of course, plenty of pink tutus!
Oh, the joy of vintage ballet fashion! My rucksack was almost bursting with notes, sketches, and even some fabulous old lace fabric scraps (for future tutu inspiration, darling! You just never know!).
Now, to bring you all the news, we were not only treated to ballets, oh no, but a delightful evening of classical music! A lovely concert at the Royal Albert Hall, where we witnessed the majestic Sir Thomas Beecham conducting an incredible symphony. The music was simply breath-taking! It filled my heart with so much joy!
As a side note, I even had the pleasure of joining a charming tea party at the grand Ritz Hotel! You simply cannot deny yourself a spot of afternoon tea and a scone, you know, to re-energize and get ready for another wonderful ballet adventure!
Now, my dearest readers, did you know that on this date in 1933, there was another lovely dance performance at the Hammersmith Grove in London, this time for the benefit of the Red Cross? Such a lovely event! Bringing joy, spreading good will - I just love that! I always think ballet is about more than just graceful movements; itās a beautiful celebration of life and artistic expression.
Of course, we werenāt just stuck in London! Next stop ā Paris! A whirlwind tour of the iconic Palais Garnier (itās as beautiful in person as in all the pictures) and I almost pinched myself when I saw a young, very handsome dancer, (I suspect he was still in training) absolutely nailing some stunning jumps! Oh la la, la vie est belle! You know, the french really know how to celebrate dance! I even grabbed a scone at a patisserie by the Palais, simply irresistible.
Magic Meg took me on a breathtaking journey across the continent to Germany where we were charmed by a rather wonderful ballet performance at the Dresden State Opera, it had all the dramatic passion I simply adore in my ballets. The costumes were spectacular ā I especially loved the beautiful, intricate hand embroidery and those sparkling gemstones on the tutus (ooh la la)! I'll tell you a secret - my little notebook is filled with notes for my next tutu design, it has so many pink options Iām just buzzing! You know, when it comes to tutus, more pink is never too much!
And you just know that this adventure couldn't be complete without a stop in Italy! Now, letās just say, their performances are passionate and full of drama and⦠well⦠more pink tutus than I can handle! My pink tutu just vibrated with glee! The fashion was astounding! Imagine a tutu adorned with golden thread embroidery and bright red velvet! Truly sensational!
In all of this pink tutu bliss, letās remember that our wonderful journey through 4th April 1933 is really just the beginning of exploring the amazing world of ballet across time! I have many more time-traveling tales to share, so don't forget to check back next month for my next fabulous post - thereās going to be plenty more tutus, amazing ballet history and, of course, plenty more pink!
