Pink Tutu Time Travel: June 6th 1933 - The Ballet Blitz!

Post 3270

Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu time traveller! Can you believe it's June already? Where does the time go?

This month, my dear Magic Meg and I are whisking ourselves back to the glamorous world of 1933, a year packed with dazzling ballet performances. Honestly, it's hard to pick just one! It was quite a year, wasn't it? A whirlwind of change, a new decade bursting with new ideas. Just like this glorious pink tutu, it was ready for something sparkly and wonderful!

We arrived on the 6th of June in Paris, a city steeped in artistic history. The atmosphere buzzed with a youthful energy, a joie de vivre that was just infectious. Everywhere you looked, life was bursting with vibrant colours, from the Parisian fashions to the artistic displays. Just my style!

This day, 1933, the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo were taking centre stage at the prestigious Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in a production of Le Carnaval, by the inimitable Mikhail Fokine. Imagine a production bursting with lively choreography, colourful costumes, and oh, those iconic characters like Pierrot and Columbine! This was the quintessential Russian ballet that had already enchanted Europe and America, and the Parisians just loved it!

With my trusty leather rucksack packed, I took my place among the elegant Parisian audience. Can you picture it? Exquisite velvet, flowing silk, delicate lace – just the inspiration I needed to update my blog. Honestly, it was just exquisite. This performance really celebrated that early 20th-century desire for opulence, and just like my trusty tutus, everything was elegant, elaborate and utterly beautiful.

I even nabbed a programme and an exquisite Le Carnaval ballet score from a kind lady on my way out – tucked safely into my trusty backpack to take back with me to Derbyshire. What treasures I'll unearth to inspire my next blog!

Of course, I was on a shopping mission too, visiting a magnificent silk mill to get some inspiration for my own tutu creations. You wouldn’t believe the exquisite hand-woven silk in a vibrant fuchsia! You can't call yourself a fashion-forward tutu enthusiast without visiting a mill, darlings!

The next morning, Meg and I high-tailed it back to 2023. The energy from 1933 Paris had really set my heart aflutter. So much creativity, so much passion, it just proves that the love for ballet has always been there, just waiting for its chance to shine. It really makes you think about the power of dance, and its ability to transcend time and space, wouldn't you say?

As for me? Well, I'm off to create another vibrant, pink, beautiful tutu, because after all, everyone looks fabulous in a pink tutu! You never know, one of my posts might inspire you to embrace your inner tutu enthusiast. Until next time, lovelies! Keep dancing!
