Pink Tutu Time Travels: February 2nd 1934 - A Ballet Bonanza! (Post 3278)

Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends! Welcome back to another edition of my monthly ballet time travel adventures! I'm your Derbyshire gal Emma, and this month, Magic Meg and I have waltzed our way back to the enchanting world of February 2nd, 1934!

Just picture this: Magic Meg, her glistening pink coat shimmering in the February sun, her white mane flowing like a ballet dancer's hair, and me, clad in a gorgeous new blush pink tutu (just had to snag it at a vintage shop in Paris - more on that later!), ready for another dose of ballet history!

So, what was the ballet scene looking like on this particular February day in 1934? Well, hold on to your tutus, my dears, because we're about to have a ball!

A Peek into the Ballet World

The London Coliseum, a theatre renowned for its majestic architecture, was buzzing with excitement as the Ballet Rambert graced the stage! A group known for its avant-garde style and dedication to innovation, the Rambert company, led by Marie Rambert, was showcasing Frederick Ashton's "Les Patineurs," a masterpiece celebrating the grace and elegance of ice skating.

Fancy a trip across the channel? The world of ballet in France was also alive with performance. The illustrious Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo was dazzling Parisian audiences with "The Nightingale," a mystical work by Léonide Massine and Igor Stravinsky.

And of course, in the heart of New York City, the famed New York City Ballet, led by George Balanchine, was stirring audiences with the classic beauty of "Swan Lake," its elegant costumes and timeless story always captivating.

Talk about a ballet-tastic start to the month! Who wouldn't love to see these stunning productions? I could already picture myself dancing along to those beautiful melodies, with Magic Meg galloping through the bustling streets of these historic cities.

Fashion in Motion

But ballet is about so much more than just dancing, isn't it? It's about the exquisite fashion, the luxurious costumes, the artistry woven into every single detail. And oh, darling, the fashions in 1934! They were simply breathtaking!

I felt like a genuine Parisian myself browsing the beautiful Parisian boutiques. Those silk and satin dresses! The graceful flowy lines of their skirts! And the hats, darling - feather boas, intricate veils, and those chic, floppy " cloche" hats which looked so glamorous, perfectly framing the face!

It wasn't just the women's fashion, mind you, the men in 1934 looked so dapper too. Those classic suits with their perfectly-tailored coats, sharp lapels and slim trousers. Their crisp shirts, elegant ties, and the sheen of their polished shoes, perfectly complementing the vibrant energy of the time.

In fact, it’s safe to say that 1934 was a golden age for fashion and glamour. I had to resist the temptation to try on every single gorgeous outfit I saw - imagine me twirling down the street of Paris in a vintage dress and cloche hat!

The Pink Tutu's Return to Derbyshire

After our wonderful time exploring London, Paris, and New York City, Magic Meg and I took to the open road, bringing our ballet journey back to Derbyshire.

This month, we visited the magnificent Peak District, a breathtaking landscape which seems almost tailor-made for ballet inspiration. The rolling hills sparkled under the clear blue February sky, the crisp mountain air blowing through our hair, creating a picture of perfect, unbridled freedom, echoing the spirit of a true ballet dancer!

I could already see the possibilities: a new performance, a ballet inspired by the breathtaking natural beauty of the Peak District, maybe even featuring the "dances" of the wind and the wild horses that graze upon these hills!

And you know what else? Back in Derbyshire, the ballet bug continues to spread! Our local theatre hosted a delightful performance of "The Nutcracker," bringing joy and laughter to children and adults alike. It was a wonderful reminder that the love of ballet, and its magic, can flourish anywhere, in any corner of the world.

The Tutu Talk: Spreading the Love

As always, I couldn't resist filling my rucksack with fascinating finds from the past - some lovely vintage ballet posters, a beautifully-written programme for the London Coliseum performance, and a charming, antique ballet book from a Paris bookshop.

And, of course, a tutu! How could I not acquire a vintage pink tutu in Paris? It is just breathtaking! A delicate shade of pink with a flowing design that's practically calling out for a pirouette or two.

But remember, my dears, the beauty of ballet isn't limited to the stage. We all have a chance to embody its spirit and spread its joy! I have so many fantastic ideas for you, from stylish ballet-inspired outfits for a day out in town, to easy at-home ballet workouts! And don't even get me started on the delicious ballet-themed cakes you can bake!

Join me in embracing the magic of ballet. Live your life always with grace and always with a touch of pink in your heart. I'll be here each month with more time-travelling tales. In the meantime, do consider stepping into a pair of ballet shoes and spreading your own personal tutu magic!

Until next time, darlings! And don't forget to visit our lovely website at www.pink-tutu.com, where we share more adventures and tutu inspiration. Until then, happy dancing, and happy time-travelling!
