Hello, my lovelies! Emma here, and this month we're taking a trip back to July 1935. Grab your sparkly pink tutus and let's go!
As always, Magic Meg, my magnificent pink-sparkling Shire horse with the golden hooves and white mane, is all ready for a grand adventure. She pawed the ground impatiently this morning, her big eyes full of anticipation for a ballet-filled jaunt.
A Busy Day in the World of Ballet
Back in 1935, the ballet world was abuzz! This was a year brimming with incredible talent and exciting productions. We know there were productions of "Swan Lake" going on, even back then! I bet there was even some lovely music composed, perhaps something that we could add to our own performances these days. It's incredible how time is both an echo and a revolution for ballet!
In London, the famous Sadler's Wells Ballet were already delighting audiences with their work, the beautiful "The Rake's Progress," directed by Frederick Ashton, a legendary figure who made dance so vibrant and emotive. If only we could pop in to one of those shows! Oh, the delight! But of course, time travel has its rules, so no peering into shows or interfering with the flow of history, as much as I would love to do a twirl on the Sadler's Wells stage.
But not to worry, dearies! The magic of this trip will lie in seeing what ballet was like back then - how did dancers train, what were the popular dances? Oh, the wonders waiting to be discovered!
A Dash of Pink in 1935
Speaking of discovery, my rucksack, ready to be filled with balletic goodies from this period, is packed. I hope I find some vintage ballet shoes to add to my collection!
I must confess that, much to my dismay, pink hadn't fully infiltrated ballet fashion back in 1935. Tutus were mainly white or pastel colours. Sigh! Still, I imagine I could make a pink tutu stand out and maybe even get some curious glances. And, hey, with my love of pink, it could even start a fashion trend - how wonderful to see everyone sporting a touch of pink on the dance floor!
A Dance-Filled Journey
My travel through time is an odyssey, not just in terms of historical immersion, but a personal journey into my love for the art form. I learn so much with every trip, gleaning inspiration and discovering new nuances that enrich my own performance, understanding of technique, and love for the history of this glorious dance.
It is amazing to see how different the ballet world was! Back in 1935, people were only just discovering the true potential of ballet! You know, that's part of what keeps me coming back, seeing those seeds of inspiration sprout into full bloom across the decades!
Stay tuned for my next blog post, where Iโll share more stories about this delightful adventure, about the 1935 ballet world and the treasures I found. Until next time, darlings, twirl and enjoy the dance!
And please do leave me a comment with what youโd like to know more about! I love to hear your requests!
Love,
Emma
