Hello lovelies!
Welcome back to my monthly musings, the fabulous world of Pink Tutu Time Travels. This month, I'm positively bouncing with excitement to share an utterly divine experience from the glittering world of ballet history - the 4th April 1936. Let's dive in, darling!
Post No. 3304 - The magic of time travel
Oh, it's just a dream, my darlings! As always, Magic Meg and I set off on a glorious pink-tinted journey back to a bygone era. I can't tell you the details of how we achieve this remarkable feat - the magic's in the sparkles and a little pinch of pink, of course! Just picture this: Me, adorned in a pink tulle confection fit for a ballerina princess, astride my glistening pink Shires horse, Magic Meg. Her white mane and tail swirl in the air like a dreamy cloud, her golden hooves glittering as she gallops through time. A sight fit for the stage, wouldn't you agree?
Arriving in a time of dance & dreams
My rucksack on my back - a charming leather satchel perfect for gathering ballet memories - we found ourselves in Paris, the capital of culture, art, and… you guessed it! Dance! This bustling city in the 1930s was practically throbbing with ballet. It felt as though every corner I turned held another delightful, dazzling dance studio.
I could tell you the date in history is 4th April 1936. Now, if I had my way, I’d be attending a Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo performance. Their breathtaking shows are an absolute must-see in the history of ballet. These glamorous ballets combined classical technique with daringly modern artistic designs. I couldn't resist squeezing my way through the crowd outside the Grand Théâtre. This place was pulsating with energy and anticipation - and my own pink-tinted delight, of course!
Parisian Fashion & Ballet Charm
Walking through the streets of Paris, my pink tutu was simply irresistible. My presence - well, it felt positively luminous! Even amongst the fashionable ladies dressed in their sleek Parisian garb - everyone just loved it. Honestly, my tutu made such an impact. People were smiling, the ladies were laughing and giving me their charming little French 'bonjour' and little pats on the shoulder. Oh darling, if only you could see their little heads shaking in wonder as they whispered 'très élégante', as my little Magic Meg and I skipped by. You can just picture the beautiful French actresses admiring the twirls and elegant turns.
The energy in Paris during those times! Every store I wandered through was absolutely delightful! From fashion houses to confectionary boutiques, there were delightful pastries and dresses that looked so exquisite! The streets seemed to glitter, too, with a touch of silver, gold, and pink just like my very own shimmering steed, Magic Meg. We're making quite an impression on these French streets!
Collecting stories and memories
What did I gather in my rucksack on this fabulous trip, I hear you ask? My latest ballet treasures from this fantastic period are absolutely delightful. I snagged some beautiful designs by artists working with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, including those fabulous collaborations between Léon Bakst and Serge Diaghilev.
The design I adored the most was for "Scheherazade." The swirling costumes in soft silks and jewels - so vibrant and imaginative! I imagine those performers, such captivating beauties, twirling and spinning across the stage!
Oh, and I absolutely had to grab some lovely costume sketches for “The Rite of Spring”. Now that one was a show stopper. I’d say a masterpiece, even! This powerful ballet featured those stark, earthy costumes that pushed all the boundaries - absolutely sensational, truly avant-garde. Just the perfect blend of modern and traditional! It would have been simply captivating to witness on the stage. I do adore that sort of powerful art and dance form. I mean, come on, darlings!
Sharing our journey - Spreading the pink tutu love
Of course, I will be featuring these inspiring images and sketches in a special blog post this week over on the website: www.pink-tutu.com . Every time I travel, I collect little moments, little experiences, like pearls in my necklace, to string them all together on our journey through ballet's rich, history.
As always, my darlings, I’m off to spread a little bit of pink-tinted ballet magic wherever I go. Do join me for our next Time Travel adventure. And until next time, remember to always embrace the joy of dance and dance like there’s nobody watching! Oh, and never, ever shy away from the beauty and magic of a pink tutu!
