Hello, darling dears! It's Emma here, your time-traveling ballerina, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com. This month, I'm taking you back to 6th June, 1936, a truly glamorous time for ballet, wouldn't you say?
Imagine, if you will, a whirlwind of silk and tulle, where even the whispers of the wind seemed to be dancing! The world was buzzing with excitement about ballet, and so was I! After all, even though I live in the Peak District, right in the heart of Derbyshire, that doesn't mean my heart isn't a ballet-loving one!
My trusty pink sparkly steed, Magic Meg, had carried me across the ages on a bed of dreams (literally - Magic Meg's saddle is the most beautiful fluffy pink sheepskin, you simply must see it!), and my heart was skipping a beat at the thought of what I would find.
And what did I find? A dazzling ballet world, of course! The first stop was the Paris Opera House, always a place brimming with excitement. Imagine my joy at being whisked into the shimmering auditorium just in time for the final curtain call of The Sleeping Beauty. The Paris Opera Ballet was known for its elegance, and those delicate arabesques, oh my, it took my breath away! They say even the swans are exquisite there. It makes me wish I was on a stage with such stunning ballet stars!
My next stop? Moscow. Oh, the Bolshoi Theatre! Such incredible power, and a vibrancy I can only describe as, well, totally "en pointe". On this day, they were showcasing "The Red Poppy".
A dance of passion, intrigue and rebellion? This sounds like the most marvellous dance story to experience. I imagine there was much pirouetting and beautiful artistry on the stage, making everyone believe for just a moment in a life of love, intrigue, and glamour.
The bolshoi, you see, was at its peak then, just as the British ballet movement was taking shape. In England, dancers were captivating London audiences, and ballet was beginning to truly blossom as an art form! It makes me so proud to be English.
But, darling dears, time was fleeting. Back home, my diary was packed full, so Magic Meg carried me back, past the quaint villages of Derbyshire and onto my own stage for the night, which was, quite naturally, entirely pink!
You see, while itโs truly wonderful seeing the worldโs most talented ballerinas, and attending such dazzling performances, I like to spend just as much time reminding everyone just how magical a ballet class is. I can be a little bit of a dreamer when it comes to pink, sparkly things - but then who isn't, when ballet is your life?
Anyway, my dear friends, time waits for no ballerina. This is where I sign off, for now. Let's meet again soon to discover the magic of another dance from history, shall we? And please, darling, join me in spreading the love of pink! Every girl should have a pink tutu!
Till next time,
Emma xx
