Pink Tutu Time Travels: 6th June, 1937 (Post #3318)

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveller! This month we’re waltzing back to the 1930s, a decade of incredible creativity and energy. So climb aboard Magic Meg, my fabulous pink-sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves, and get ready to twirl through the history books!

It's been quite the journey getting here, with our trusty time-travel harness whirring and popping as we zipped through the years. Oh, I must tell you about my new ballet bag! I found the most exquisite vintage pouch in a little shop in Vienna – a deep ruby red with intricate floral embroidery. Just the thing for holding all my treasures, wouldn't you say?

The year is 1937, a year bursting with exciting new ballet works and innovative ideas. In a world full of elegance and style, I’m particularly smitten with the new tutu designs that are being worn – feathers, beads, and a whole lotta pink, of course! Oh, the tutus! Some are flowing and delicate, made of diaphanous silks and gauzes, whilst others are bold and dramatic, sculpted with structured layers and intricate lace. They're quite the works of art, wouldn’t you agree?

But what's really captured my attention this month are the fabulous new productions making their debuts across the globe.

Let’s start in the USA:

The 6th of June 1937 is a landmark date for ballet in the USA – The New York City Ballet, the esteemed troupe that we all know and love today, is formed! It was officially known as "The American Ballet" at this time, under the dynamic duo of Lincoln Kirstein and George Balanchine. What a grand adventure this company has embarked on! They’re certainly shaping the future of ballet with their innovative techniques and vibrant performances. I’ve even heard they’re opening a school, exciting times ahead for budding ballerinas.

Across the pond, in England, the Vic-Wells Ballet is also captivating audiences with their exquisite artistry. They’re performing a magnificent production of "The Sleeping Beauty", their famous interpretation, with its graceful choreography and captivating storytelling. Margot Fonteyn, who was then 19 years old, is in her debut role as Aurora! It’s just breathtaking! The whole show is infused with romance and elegance, making it the perfect night out in the glittering West End.

Speaking of the West End, there is a must-see performance happening in London’s Lyric Theatre. A vibrant ballet show titled “Parade” is receiving rave reviews! It combines beautiful music and choreography, with some absolutely sensational costume design – lots of shimmery fabrics, feathers, and even a stunning pink tutu, much to my delight. I wonder what inspired this particular shade of pink. Maybe a cup of afternoon tea with Earl Grey and some strawberry scones, with a touch of rose water? I just love how colour inspires fashion!

The world is buzzing with dance! Let's not forget the wonderful productions happening across Europe and further afield. In Moscow, the Bolshoi Ballet is holding court with “Swan Lake”. Imagine, performing in a grand theatre like the Bolshoi! They're known for their power and precision. There are simply no words for the elegance of their graceful swan movements! They're so inspiring, I wish I could share the stage with them!

From the elegant Russian style to the contemporary vibrancy of America, ballet is truly a global phenomenon. And as you’ll know, it’s also about more than the show; it’s about the costumes, the make-up, the exquisite tutus, and all the accessories.

So tell me, darlings, what's caught your eye in the world of fashion? Are you sporting any glamorous tutus this month? You know I love to see photos on my website! Tell me your style secrets!

Don’t forget to come back next month as we time-travel through the exciting history of dance, and we'll share more of the fabulous pink tutus we encounter along the way. Until next time, happy twirling!

P.S. I’m on the lookout for any lovely vintage ballet shoes! They might be old but they’ve seen some magical dance performances in their time!

P.P.S. This month's prize giveaway is an incredible ballet-themed jewellery set, all set in sparkling pink. Just leave a comment below, tell me your favourite ballet and the chance to win!

So there you have it, another enchanting adventure with my lovely pink tutu! I simply cannot wait for next month’s time-travel adventure – do you know what I’ve discovered for next time? It involves the Bolshoi Ballet, a very famous tutu and a touch of magic! Be sure to come back and join me, won't you?
