Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, and welcome to another exciting post on www.pink-tutu.com! This month, my trusty steed Magic Meg and I are whisking ourselves back to September 1937, a period bursting with ballet brilliance! I'm so excited to share this fabulous adventure with you! This is post number 3321 ā buckle up, because this oneās a real corker!
Now, you know me, Iām a true fan of the tutus, so the first thing I wanted to check out in Paris was the latest in ballet fashion. The 1930s were a golden age for chic elegance in ballet. It wasnāt all just romantic tutus; dancers were exploring shorter, sleeker lines, sometimes even ditching the tutu altogether! The fabrics, darling, were sensational - shimmering satins and luxurious silks that looked like spun sugar under the stage lights! You know me, I had to pop into a few Parisian shops to pick up some of that fabulous inspiration for my own tutu collection, youāll be seeing some gorgeous creations coming up, just you wait! š
The main attraction for me though was always the ballet itself! š Let's delve into the exciting world of ballet in Paris this month, shall we?
Firstly, thereās no place better for ballet in Paris than the legendary OpĆ©ra Garnier. Imagine the grand marble staircase, those plush red velvet seats, and the sheer grandeur! A truly awe-inspiring experience that puts the modern theatre to shame! I simply had to pop into the opulent library tucked away in the Opera Garnier and add to my collection of rare ballet books, such as that lovely copy of "The Art of Ballet" by Albert Sorel ā what a treasure!
One of the biggest draws this September, however, was the performance of "Le Lac des Cygnes" (Swan Lake). You can't talk about 1937 without acknowledging the phenomenal Olga Spessivtseva. A truly elegant swan she was! And who better to take the lead role opposite Spessivtseva, you might ask? Why, none other than the dashing and very dapper Serge Lifar of course! Can you imagine watching these two stars weave their magic together on stage? You can feel the energy, the passion, and the incredible grace even after all these years.
And remember, darlings, you donāt just need to go to an opera house to enjoy the magic of ballet! There are plenty of fantastic performances taking place at theatres all over Paris! This September, the Theatre des Champs-Elysees offered a vibrant performance of "La Boutique Fantasque", and the charming "La Fille Mal GardĆ©e" made a delightful appearance at the Salle Pleyel.
So much was happening, and it wasnāt just Paris! I decided to hop over to London, as thatās my home turf after all, to catch a glimpse of the Vic-Wells Ballet, performing in all its glory. These dancers, darlings, were absolutely bursting with passion and energy! They brought the magic of dance to every corner of the stage and filled the auditorium with a joyous, exhilarating atmosphere. Now thatās something that can truly make a time traveller feel right at home. š
And as for Magic Meg? She was absolutely in her element! Thereās nothing she loves more than galloping through time, and this month was truly a feast for her equine eyes. Just imagine a pink-sparkling Shire with a flowing mane, golden hooves, and the grace of a ballerina horse, she absolutely captivated all who saw her ā a real fashion icon in her own right! š“āØ
Of course, with such incredible ballet and fashion to discover, it was impossible not to be inspired! I filled my leather rucksack with all sorts of goodies: beautiful vintage photos, playbills, even a few little bits of costume and jewellery! These precious little pieces, darling, will surely inspire some very special tutu creations for my next collection, which Iāll be showing off at the Derby Theatre in a few weeksā time, and of course I'll let you know all about that later. š
There is a huge community of us tutued travellers, and all we want is to see more pink tutus dancing in the world! Whether it's at the opera house or the local ballet class, thereās a special energy and power that comes from wearing a pink tutu ā Iām not even sure I could describe it, darling! Just wait till you try it yourself. Don't forget to check out my online shop on www.pink-tutu.com ā thereās always something new coming up. Oh, and make sure to keep your eye on the āpink-tutuā social media, thereās a competition coming up to find a āTutu Superstarā for next year, it's going to be such fun! š¤©
Until next time, my loves!
Emma xx
P.S. I almost forgot, did you know that in September 1937, the beautiful ballerina Anna Pavlova died? Though this was sad news, it marked a significant moment in history ā it was the end of an era, and her legacy has lived on! Such a talented lady and truly inspirational to anyone wearing a pink tutu.
