Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! I'm Emma, your trusty ballerina time traveller, and this month, I'm taking you back to a vibrant March day in 1939, just before the world changed.
Before we journey back in time, I just have to share some news! I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that my fundraising performance for the 'Tutu for Everyone' charity was a resounding success. The audience were absolutely mesmerised by my pirouettes, and our collection for providing every child in Derbyshire with a pink tutu, even surpassed our wildest dreams! This is a giant step towards achieving my dream β a world where pink tutus reign supreme!
Now, onto our time travel adventure! Magic Meg, my glorious pink-sparkling shire steed, was rearing to go, her golden hooves gleaming, her white mane and tail shimmering like moonlight. I donned my most extravagant pink tutu β a masterpiece of layers of tulle and glittering sequins, fitting for a momentous trip!
We arrived in 1939, landing softly in the heart of London, just in time to catch a performance at the Royal Opera House. Oh my! It was breathtaking! The ballet "Swan Lake", a true classic, filled the stage with graceful swans and daring leaps. I particularly enjoyed the "Black Swan" pas de deux, the powerful drama conveyed by just two dancers - a masterclass in emotion and physical prowess!
Of course, no visit to the theatre is complete without some time spent exploring the enchanting ballet world. I ventured into the backstages, my rucksack filled with excitement to collect fascinating memories and beautiful dance-related items. Imagine my delight at stumbling upon a magnificent 19th century tutu, handcrafted with layers upon layers of ivory silk, preserved like a delicate butterfly wing! I immediately popped it into my rucksack to show you later!
However, the theatre wasn't the only place humming with ballet. Covent Garden, bustling with life, hosted another spectacle β a street dance performance! These nimble dancers moved with the energy of a thousand hummingbirds, their leaps and twirls adding colour and joy to the everyday lives of Londoners. The rhythmic movements were a truly engaging experience β a ballet for the streets!
Of course, a ballerina time traveller cannot resist a little fashion shopping. The 1939 fashion scene was a whirlwind of elegance and sophistication, but my eye fell upon a bewitching ballet shoe shop. A symphony of ribbons and leathers, every colour imaginable in rows of delicate slippers - heaven! I picked up a pair of soft pink leather pointe shoes, the most elegant I've ever seen! I may even attempt a pas de deux with these exquisite little gems!
While in 1939, the whispers of war were growing, the spirit of dance remained alive and strong. Itβs a beautiful reminder of the power of art to transcend times of turmoil and bring us joy, hope, and unity. Even during tough times, our love for ballet continues to flourish!
Now, as always, I need your help to fuel my time travels. I will be performing a magical 'Pink Tutu Extravaganza' on the 17th of April, with all proceeds going towards my upcoming expeditions! Come join me for a delightful evening filled with music, dance, and shimmering pink tutus! Details will be posted on www.pink-tutu.com, so keep an eye out!
Until next month, keep dancing, and don't forget, even in a world without pink tutus, always strive for elegance and grace.
Love, Emma xx
