Post Number 3341: Twirling Through Time: May 5th, 1939!

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your very own time-travelling tutu-tastic blogger, back for another exciting journey through the wonderful world of ballet! This month, I'm whisking us all back to 5th May, 1939, a truly spectacular year for dance. And guess what? Magic Meg, my trusty pink steed, is pawing at the stable door with her gorgeous white mane gleaming, eager to whisk us off to this dazzling historical moment!

Oh, how I adore pink! Just like the blushing sunrise peeking over Derbyshire this morning, pink just radiates such a joyful energy, don't you think? And my latest pink tutu, a frothy masterpiece with swirling layers and delicate ribbons, perfectly reflects this. The joy and vibrancy of pink! It’s the perfect hue for a ballerina! It makes every movement just that little bit more magical!

So, gather around my darlings, and let's journey back in time! Magic Meg is ready, and we're about to discover what enchanting performances were gracing the stage on this special date.

The crisp spring air of 1939 crackled with anticipation! Imagine, darling, cobbled streets echoing with the clip-clop of carriages, grand ladies sporting elaborate feathered hats and swirling silk gowns, and gentlemen in their finest attire. Everywhere, the whisper of excitement buzzed as whispers of a world-famous ballet troupe travelled through the city.

And here I am, tucked on Meg’s broad, strong back, my leather rucksack packed full of eager anticipation for the ballet discoveries awaiting. Magic Meg takes us through cobbled streets lined with charming cafes and shops filled with the aroma of freshly-baked bread and exotic spices. Imagine, my darlings, how my heart dances at the sheer beauty of it all!

I have been reading all week about the world’s finest ballerinas who grace the stage in the glamorous, romantic era of 1939. In my bag are precious items that whisper of that world, waiting for my pen to document their enchanting story. The dance shoes of legendary ballerinas like Anna Pavlova and Alicia Markova are there, carefully preserved in my rucksack, each tiny leather sole echoing with whispers of their astounding athleticism and artistry.

Oh, what a joyous journey for the soul, this time-travel to 1939! I’ve heard whispers that in America on this day in 1939, the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, founded by Sergei Diaghilev in the 1900s, are giving an astounding performance of their revolutionary and captivating ballet, ā€œScheherazade!ā€ Just imagine! This ballet, with its captivating story and intricate choreography, was renowned for its bold costumes and flamboyant energy! The dancers’ movement was powerful, passionate and intensely dramatic.

We’ve travelled for what seems like hours, guided by my compass that leads me to ballet and a gentle rhythm that pulls us forward. My trusty, beautiful Magic Meg, with her pink sparkling coat, patiently takes me from one theatre to another in search of the most breathtaking ballet show. But what can be more magnificent than the stories behind the costumes and the dance that take hold of the audience? This, darling, is the magic of time travel, seeing a historical show from another century!

Magic Meg has taken us from London's magnificent West End where dancers whirl in glamour, to the Paris Opera House. On 5th May 1939, the air of Paris crackled with a bohemian atmosphere.

I find myself at a breathtaking performance, lost in a swirling whirlwind of colours, and the intoxicating whiff of sweet perfumes. This magnificent night has brought out the creme de la creme of Paris! Oh my! Such fashion and fabulous hats, feathers, ruffles, and elegant ladies wearing dazzling gowns in colours that melt away under the chandelier’s shimmer. I’m even wearing my new tutu this evening! A vision in pale pink with swirls of champagne colour and golden threads that create a delightful effect in this candlelit hall.

I find a quiet corner by the stage, behind the ornate curtains, and witness the performance unfolding in a dizzying symphony of swirling legs and precise pointe work. I imagine the stories of each of the performers as they lose themselves in this timeless art form, and the exquisite and mesmerising spectacle before me is just incredible.

Imagine a sea of twinkling lights, as if stars have fallen to Earth. And then, darling, as the beautiful music rises, dancers move as though floating on air. There is such grace, such passion! And oh, those costumes, oh darling! A kaleidoscope of sumptuous silk and velvet! It’s the artistry, the grace and the emotions woven into every movement, every leap and spin that captures my soul!

And, here I am, tucked behind the curtain, as though on a set with all these magnificent dancers! What a magnificent era to have time travelled into!

Time travel has become a little easier now. Thanks to all the wonderful performances and a busy dance schedule I have, Magic Meg has taken me from Derbyshire to Paris, to America, to New York’s Grand Ballroom to London’s most fabulous stage shows, all funded by my exciting performance schedule!

Darling, don’t just dream of travelling through time, go out and make it happen! And as we make time-travel possible, make every single day a celebration! If you too have your own favourite dance styles or eras that bring you a wave of joy, let me know! And always remember, dear readers, a pink tutu and a dash of pink magic can get you absolutely anywhere!
