Oh darlings! December 12th, a day to remember! I popped on my pinkest tutu (it’s the one with the sparkly, cascading frills) and mounted Magic Meg, my shimmering shire horse, ready to journey back in time to the grand year of 1945.
We’ve all just experienced a global war, but the spirit of ballet shines on, even through the darkest of times! So, off we galloped, my leather rucksack strapped snugly to my back, ready to gather up all the wonderful stories and ballet gems that this period holds.
We arrived in the heart of London, the air still tinged with the echoes of bombs and rebuilding efforts, but already buzzing with the magic of the theatre!
Now, you won’t believe this, but today was opening night at the Royal Opera House! It's hard to believe after all those years of silence during the war, ballet was back!
The Sadler's Wells Ballet, under the guidance of the brilliant Ninette de Valois - the Dame herself, a true pioneer of dance - took to the stage, with a dazzling performance of “The Sleeping Beauty”. Oh my, the elegance of those ballerinas, the grace, the artistry - it just took my breath away! I could feel the entire theatre humming with excitement.
I scribbled frantically in my notepad - “The Sleeping Beauty,” that’s a name I shall remember!
Later, as the evening turned into night, I hopped off Meg (who patiently munches on dandelions nearby, because who needs hay when you've got such delectable snacks?) and slipped into the glittering world of London’s ballet scene. The city was aglow with the buzz of returning life, the air thick with whispers of hope and new beginnings.
A couple of dapper young gentlemen escorted me to the "Dancing at the Savoy", a society event celebrating the return of elegance and sophistication. They were captivated by my dazzling pink tutu - truly, it’s a showstopper! It was quite a contrast to the sombre grey tones everyone was wearing at the time, but it just added a touch of pure joy and femininity to the scene.
The dancefloor thrummed with the sounds of swing music and I swirled around with such enthusiasm, sharing the magic of ballet with everyone. Even though ballet isn't strictly “swinging,” its joy and energy are contagious! It’s all about making your spirit soar and having fun!
Now, a secret to share, darlings: I’m convinced I’ve stumbled onto a ballet craze! Everywhere I went, people were talking about the ballet revival. Everyone wants to get involved, to be a part of this enchanting art form, and I couldn’t be happier about it!
Even after all these years, I find myself reminiscing about the experience. The feeling of being surrounded by history, of dancing alongside the world as it reemerged, was simply magical.
It reminds me, darling, why I continue to journey back in time. It’s all about the sharing, about inspiring and bringing a bit of pink tutu joy to the world, one dance step at a time.
I'm off to write my next blog post, darling! Keep checking www.pink-tutu.com, and don't forget - it's never too late to put on your own pink tutu and spread a little bit of dance magic!
Love, Emma xx
