Post #3510: 6th June 1953 - A Royal Ballet Bonanza!

Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome back to another fabulous journey through ballet history! It’s the 6th June, 1953 and let me tell you, there’s an absolute whirlwind of excitement happening in the world of ballet today!

The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II - Yes, you read that right! This year marks the coronation of our very own Queen Elizabeth II, and the nation (and the ballet world, of course!) is in a twee frenzy. And wouldn't you know it, my darling Meg (my magnificent pink sparkling Shire horse, with those gorgeous golden hooves and snowy white mane and tail – she's quite the head-turner, you know) and I just happened to be galloping through the streets of London on the big day. What a sight! Everyone was decked out in their finery, with flags waving everywhere, the air thick with celebration and the sound of cheering. Just magical!

Now, imagine the absolute spectacle! A grand procession, bedecked in sparkling regalia, carriages gleaming in the sunlight, and our darling Queen Elizabeth looking absolutely radiant in her coronation robes, the sight was breathtaking.

But here's the real excitement, darlings! The Royal Ballet performed a special gala performance to celebrate the Queen's coronation at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. It must have been such a phenomenal evening, a dazzling showcase of the most talented dancers in the country! Just picturing the hushed anticipation as the curtain rises, the hushed excitement of the crowd… It’s truly extraordinary!

What to wear on a grand day? You guessed it, darlings! I knew I had to wear something extra special. I dusted off my fabulous, full-skirted pink tutu, perfectly matching my pink top (of course, one must have a splash of pink for such an event!) With a jaunty little hat, my new pink pumps, and my favourite feather boa (a bit of drama, you know!), I felt absolutely fabulous! My darling Meg was sporting a lovely pink ribbon around her head, so even she got into the celebratory spirit.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a real time-travelling adventure without a little shopping! The shops in London were bustling, full of pretty lace, floral fabrics, and elegant gloves, which, you know, are a necessity for any fashionable ballet aficionado. Imagine me twirling through the fabric stalls, picking out the most delightful silks and ribbons! I picked up a gorgeous vintage silk scarf in a shade of rose and a small porcelain doll adorned in a ballerina outfit – perfect for adding a touch of pink elegance to my dressing table back in Derbyshire.

As for the ballet, I even managed to get my hands on a program! It's a treasure trove of names, the original cast of the Royal Ballet Company. It includes such legendary dancers as Margot Fonteyn and Frederick Ashton. These are names that have graced the world's stages with their artistry, leaving their mark on the history of ballet!

So, dear friends, 6th June, 1953 was truly a day to remember! I even popped a few pieces of vintage theatre playbills, and some other treasures from this date into my leather rucksack. It’s so thrilling to capture moments in time like these!

Of course, I just can't wait to share more exciting moments from my ballet time travels. You know I wouldn't let you go without a few photos. Here’s one of me standing next to the Coronation Coach - I'm trying to subtly show off my pink shoes and tutu to the crowd, which seemed rather confused about the strange, pink-clad figure, but that’s all part of the fun!

So, keep those tutus twirling and remember, dear darlings, to embrace life’s adventures with the joy and grace of a ballerina! Until next time, be fabulous!

Love,

Emma xoxo
