Pink Tutu Time Travels: June 1955, Post #3534!

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, and this month, I'm whisking you back to a glorious day in June 1955, with Magic Meg, my beautiful, pink-sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves and a flowing white mane.

This trip is particularly special as it takes us to a truly iconic ballet moment. Can you guess? It's all about one of my absolute favourite things: tutus!

This month’s blog post will be about…drumroll… the world premiere of The Sleeping Beauty! That’s right, we are hopping into our pink time machine, Meg and I, and journeying to London’s Royal Opera House for this grand opening.

To get us in the mood, I am rocking my best, custom-made pink tulle tutu, as vibrant and dazzling as the very fabric of this historical event. A lovely lilac satin ribbon is knotted around my waist, and on my feet, are my dearest en pointe shoes, a pearly white, almost luminescent. I think you’ll agree, I am looking perfectly poised and positively charming!

Now, onto this time-travelling adventure! I'm sure you've all heard the tale of Sleeping Beauty, and her enchanting awakening by the true love's kiss. This June night in 1955 was absolutely magical, a kaleidoscope of emotions and breathtaking artistry that will surely leave a permanent mark on history!

For those of you who have yet to experience The Sleeping Beauty on stage, the ballet tells the story of Princess Aurora, who is cursed by the wicked fairy Carabosse. Her only hope of escape lies with a true love’s kiss. Throughout the journey, you'll encounter captivating performances, incredible dance techniques, and stunning costumes – what more could you ask for!

But enough about this beautiful ballet; it's time to delve into the details. My darling Meg and I travelled in style. This time we had a rather lovely little basket picnic for the trip - think crustless cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, and homemade lemonade. This kind of luxury travel is something you can’t replicate on a good train, can it?!

And when we arrived at the Royal Opera House, you wouldn't believe the atmosphere! Everyone was dressed in their finest - the men were all sporting impeccable suits, the ladies in gorgeous gowns and fascinators. The excitement was palpable, a veritable buzzing hive of anticipation. You could practically taste it in the air.

For the performance itself, oh my goodness! The dancers - a true embodiment of elegance and grace! They twirled, leaped, and glided across the stage, bringing the enchanting tale of Aurora to life. There were shimmering tutus in hues of lilac and silver, and the fairy costumes were simply divine. All in all, an enchanting night that wouldn't have felt complete without a glass of champagne and a generous amount of chocolate truffles. The ballet was truly magnificent, an exquisite treat for the senses. It truly encapsulated the spirit of beauty and hope, reminding me of all that is good and bright in the world!

Afterwards, of course, there was shopping. One must get a bit of ballet-inspired merchandise after such a spectacle, don’t you agree? I’ve just found my new, lovely silk ballet shoes - the colour is almost pink, but with a hint of lavender… I think this is the perfect addition to my collection!

On a lighter note, after my ballet-filled afternoon, my journey continued across time. The London atmosphere in the evening was buzzing. My favourite place in the city has to be the shops around Oxford Circus; there were these incredible displays of the newest fashion, and my heart did flutter for a lovely pink, hand-knitted sweater that I absolutely must track down when I'm back here on another trip. I wonder if you can even imagine that time machine of mine? A magical creation, like stepping into the very pages of a children’s book, if only it wasn’t all that pink, you understand.

Before I dash back to Derbyshire and my home studio, let’s talk a little more about 1955! It was the year of the groundbreaking New Look fashion movement led by Christian Dior. Remember that ā€œpoofyā€ skirt with the nipped waist? I did! And let me tell you, it looked simply darling!

On the ballet scene, the Royal Ballet company had its own captivating year in 1955. They toured internationally, performing the full length version of Swan Lake, with the majestic Margot Fonteyn as the enchanting swan queen. And, Sir Frederick Ashton, one of the most revered choreographers of all time, continued his work.

The ballet world of 1955 was one filled with grace, glamour, and extraordinary talent! A ballet lover like me had to see it to believe it! And this is precisely why I travel across time, dear reader!

That's all from me for now. Don’t forget to check out our website: www.pink-tutu.com for updates and my latest fashion finds. I will be off on my next ballet adventure in July, and you will be the first to know about it, as always. Until next time!

Sending all the pink tutu vibes, Emma xxx
