Hello darlings! Emma here, your very own pink-tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you away to another delightful era of ballet history! This month, our journey takes us back to the 7th of July, 1958 - a date filled with enchanting ballet happenings across the globe!
Remember my faithful steed, Magic Meg? The shimmering pink Shire with golden hooves and a mane like spun moonlight? Well, we were in a bit of a hurry to get to Paris! Why, you ask? Because on this very date, a delightful event called “Ballet en Scene” took place at the Salle Pleyel. This was a celebration of French ballet history featuring incredible pieces like "La Fille mal gardée" and "Giselle." Just imagine, dear readers, being transported back to witness the magic of ballet on such a grand stage, feeling the thrill of the audience's applause echoing around the historic halls! I almost had a fit with excitement as we galloped into Paris - wouldn't you have been just a touch overwhelmed with the grandeur of it all?
Of course, my fabulous pink tutu was front and centre - what else?! Imagine the exquisite details - the delicate lace, the tulle so light and airy, swirling as I twirled alongside Magic Meg on our grand entrance. (Did I mention, the tutu had little pink butterflies embroidered all around?! It truly was a piece of sartorial art!).
While we were in Paris, I simply had to indulge in some haute couture. Imagine my glee! The designers were truly ahead of their time in 1958 - such amazing pieces, so elegantly tailored! It gave me such fantastic inspiration for future tutu designs. Why not blend some vintage with the modern, right?
But we weren't only about Parisian fashion this month. We hopped across the channel to London! The Royal Opera House had an absolute corker on its roster! I'm talking the phenomenal "The Sleeping Beauty" - one of my absolute favourites! I can practically see myself gracefully weaving through the crowd in my pink tutu, then silently gliding into the theater and slipping into one of the plush velvet seats - the kind that feel like a gentle hug. It was a performance that took your breath away and brought a tear to your eye, truly heart-wrenching! You would think the magic of such a performance would be enough, but it got even better!
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that on this date, a certain dance legend, Margot Fonteyn, graced the stage! What a privilege to see such a gifted dancer in person, truly embodying the spirit of classical ballet. Her every movement exuded elegance, artistry, and sheer magic - I felt I was witnessing the birth of ballet itself! Her moves left me completely breathless and captivated. And it gave me a whole new appreciation for how ballet moves have evolved.
You see, dear readers, the magic of ballet is woven into every aspect of our past, present, and future. By studying its history, we discover new avenues of expression and find a stronger sense of purpose as dancers. Even a casual observer can be charmed by the magic of a ballet performance. It truly is a time capsule, carrying stories from ages past - it’s how we connect to our past, and inspire future generations.
Now, you can be a time traveler too! Embrace the world of ballet and be inspired! Go to your local ballet classes, get dressed in your most magnificent tutus (don't forget the pink ones, of course!), and let yourself be transported to another world - just like me, in my very own time-traveling adventures. Don't be afraid to unleash the magic within. And for the next journey, we’ll be looking at something else totally exciting... perhaps we’ll be in America for some dazzling Broadway shows? Keep a close eye out for next month's blog post - you don’t want to miss out on the magic of ballet history! Until next time, darlings! Stay fabulous!
Love, Emma
