Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post 3606 – June 1961: A Whirl Through The World of Ballet!

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time traveller, ready to whisk you back to June 1961! Oh, my dears, what a month for ballet it was! I simply had to visit. Now, where to even begin...

I hopped on Magic Meg, my darling pink-sparkling shire horse (who really is magic, I tell you!) and galloped through time, the breeze carrying the sweet scent of lavender and honeysuckle. June 1961... oh, it was practically pulsating with exciting ballet happenings.

My leather rucksack, my faithful companion, was brimming with anticipation!

First stop, Moscow, for a visit to the Bolshoi Ballet. Oh, darling, these performances are simply divine! The Bolshoi was abuzz with excitement. Everyone was buzzing about Rudolf Nureyev, a handsome young dancer who was taking the world by storm. It was quite the sensation. I managed to snag a front-row seat for the ballet "Giselle," a truly moving experience, especially when they danced the haunting mad scene. I couldn’t resist adding a few souvenirs from the Bolshoi gift shop to my collection, you know, for those quiet evenings when I just want to get lost in memories of glorious performances.

After a delicious blinis-and-tea breakfast at the Bolshoi cafe (heavenly!), we galloped to Paris, the city of love! Ah, Paris... how I do love the elegance, the grace, the vibrant pulse of Parisian ballet. At the Palais Garnier, I was treated to a truly exquisite production of "La Sylphide," a classic I absolutely adore! There was an air of excitement and passion in the theatre, almost tangible. Paris was overflowing with so many famous dancers.

Of course, after such a performance, a little bit of Parisian shopping was mandatory. Did I mention I love Parisian ballet fashion? I picked up the most beautiful pink tulle skirt that would look simply darling in a "La Sylphide" production, and of course, a little Parisian beret.

Feeling the weight of the shopping bags on Magic Meg’s back (bless her hooves!), I set my sights on the London Coliseum. The Royal Ballet, oh darling, what a treat! This month, they were performing "Swan Lake" with Margot Fonteyn, the absolute icon of the ballet world. You know, you simply cannot beat a classic, and this performance, well, it simply took my breath away! Every graceful pirouette, every swan-like glide, simply perfect. It was almost surreal watching Fonteyn in all her glory.

Now, I cannot forget to mention, that during our time travel this month, we took a short trip to Derbyshire, my little slice of heaven! I’m telling you, you should come visit, the ballet scene in this little town is blooming, simply bursting with energy and life! We had an absolutely amazing performance at the Buxton Opera House, I almost forgot that my blog is about global ballet! They put on such a magnificent performance of "Cinderella," so beautiful. You simply had to be there, darling.

But that's not all! I went to the most charming little ballet studio, hidden away in a converted old cottage. It was just a little class of young dancers but they were all so excited and full of passion. They were practicing a little routine of “The Nutcracker," which gave me all the Christmas feels, despite it being the middle of summer!

Of course, no time-traveling ballerina can go a month without adding a new tutu to their collection. This month, I found a glorious pink tulle tutu at the “World of Dance” shop in London. Oh, it's simply beautiful, darling! The perfect pink shade with soft ruffles, just right for the most dazzling "Swan Lake" performance, and I cannot wait to try it out for myself!

It has been a whirlwind month, darting across the globe to see the most amazing ballet shows. And all the while, I've been soaking up the stories and fashion from this extraordinary time, collecting them for you to read!

Do you have a favorite performance this month, my dears? Leave a comment below. And as always, be sure to follow me at www.pink-tutu.com. And never forget... A pink tutu is all you need for a beautiful ballet life.
