Pink Tutu Time Travel: A Whirl Through 1965! 🩰✨

Welcome, darlings, to Pink-Tutu.com, your monthly dose of all things ballet! Today, I’m particularly thrilled to whisk you back in time with me – to the 8th of August, 1965! Buckle up your pointe shoes, grab your trusty pink tutu (pink, always pink, dears!), and climb aboard Magic Meg!

This is Post Number 3656 on the Pink-Tutu blog – my journey continues! If you’re new to this extraordinary adventure, let me fill you in on the exciting details: I'm Emma, your fellow tutu-loving ballerina from the rolling hills of Derbyshire, England. By some fantastical stroke of luck (and, of course, a lot of ballet fundraising!) I've been granted the power to travel through time, accompanied by the most spectacular pink, sparkling Shire horse you’ve ever seen.

Magic Meg has golden hooves, a magnificent mane, and a tail like a cloud of whipped cream - her pink sparkle truly steals the show! She’s not just any horse, my dears, she’s the ultimate travel companion, bringing her magic to each time travel journey. With a pink satin saddle and sparkly leather reins, we set off together, gathering tales and treasures of the ballet world throughout history.

Today’s Time Travel Destination: 1965!

It’s always an absolute delight to pop in on the past, and 1965 was quite the year for the ballet world, full of exciting premieres and thrilling performances. But first, we’ve got some shopping to do! A trip to Harrods for the latest fashion must-haves – can you believe it's still considered trendy to wear a matching hat and handbag set? Goodness me, what will they think of next?! We're on the lookout for vintage ballet flats (can't leave a trip back in time without them!), a glamorous evening gown for tonight's premiere, and perhaps a feather boa just for a touch of flair. Oh, and I just have to check out their costume department - you never know what hidden treasures one might discover tucked away in those velvet-lined shelves.

But on to the ballet! It seems there are a number of fascinating shows happening all over the world:

  • New York City: At the New York City Ballet, they are giving a revival of " Agon," Balanchine's stunning, abstract ballet set to Stravinsky’s brilliant music. A truly innovative piece for the time. I'm making a note to request that Magic Meg get us tickets for that show, just imagine how stylish it will be!
  • The Royal Ballet, London: We have the delightful Frederick Ashton's “The Two Pigeons” on the bill tonight, and the ballet world is positively abuzz with excitement! I am dying to see that glorious pink pas de deux in person, so Magic Meg and I will be taking the grandstand seats at Covent Garden! Oh, darling, I cannot wait to witness the breathtaking grace and beauty of Ashton’s work!
  • France: Roland Petit’s legendary “ Carmen, ” based on Bizet's captivating opera, is causing a stir in Paris. They say it's a truly scandalous and stunning performance! Well, it’s Paris, what can one expect, my dears? I think I'm in dire need of some scandalous pink lipstick to match this thrilling story.
  • Australia: Did you know the Australian Ballet had its very first season in 1962, only a few years ago? Now that's something to celebrate! Imagine seeing this magnificent dance company in its fledgling years – such history!

My, that was quite the round-up of events, wouldn’t you agree? This truly has been a most glamorous day of ballet and travel! It is my firm belief, darling, that one should embrace every opportunity for adventure and the pursuit of ballet bliss! Now that Magic Meg and I have witnessed the vibrant ballet world of 1965, it is time to make our way back to Derbyshire – I think I might have picked up some rather exciting vintage ballet shoes to add to my collection!

Until next month, keep your eyes on the pink tutu! 💕✨

Your Ballet Time Traveller,

Emma
