Hello lovelies! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveller, back with another instalment of my Ballet Time Travels! I’m currently parked up outside the Royal Opera House, a spot of Covent Garden charm, ready to pop into the theatre for a night of pure enchantment! But first, let’s hop aboard my darling Meg, my pink-sparkling Shire horse with those gorgeous golden hooves and glorious mane, and set off on a trip down memory lane!
Today, we’re heading back to October 10th, 1965. Fancy a bit of Sixties Swing?! We're about to witness a ballet performance at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow! It's a dazzling celebration of the ballet’s rich Russian heritage, a real whirlwind of intricate movements, and a symphony of emotion.
I'm absolutely smitten with the gorgeous colour schemes and dramatic costumes of this period – so many stunning shades of cerise and flamingo pink! I’m absolutely dreaming of my new collection – a magnificent cerise tutu with hand-beaded embroidery! Can you imagine the absolute joy of twirling across the stage in something that glamorous?
Before I dash off to the ballet, let's delve into the magical world of 1965.
1965: The Year of the Twirling StarFashion was a delight, my darlings. Think flowing gowns, shimmering sequins, and a touch of dramatic bouffant – I'm utterly enthralled! Imagine yourself walking down Piccadilly Circus in your finest pink tutu and some fabulous go-go boots – simply exquisite!
Remember all those vibrant hues of 1965? The blues, greens and, of course, pink! It's simply an absolute visual delight, darling.
The air is electric with anticipation for new performances. Back then, ballet was an evening ritual for many! They'd don their finest attire – imagine all that feather boa and silk! And then gather to immerse themselves in this magical world of grace and beauty! I find the whole experience intoxicating - the anticipation, the excitement! The atmosphere!
The 1960s witnessed the rise of a number of legendary ballet companies. And just imagine, darling, some of the ballerinas of this time – absolute icons like Natalia Makarova and Margot Fonteyn – so utterly enchanting. It truly was a glorious era!
A Little Something From the 1965 Ballerina Time MachineAs always, my lovely pink leather rucksack is packed with beautiful stories and precious treasures from the time period. It overflows with the spirit and style of 1965:
- The Story of Margot Fonteyn. A treasured paperback about the most celebrated ballerina of her time.
- A tiny velvet shoe box containing a gorgeous vintage 1960's ballet pin: it's a small silver ballerina poised delicately in a cerise pink dress – a true collectors' item!
- An enchanting vintage 1965 Ballet programme: I've tucked it into my backpack, to treasure forever.
- An intricately embossed letter, written in elegant cursive, from a ballet student in Moscow, describing her first experience in the Bolshoi Ballet: It speaks of the raw beauty and emotional power of a life devoted to dance.
These little treasures truly embody the magic and glamour of this era!
From Pink Tutu Time Traveller to Ballet QueenAfter my fantastic trip back to 1965, I’m heading into London's most exclusive shops for a touch of that vintage chic.
