Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, Emma, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! It's the start of a brand new year and I’m bubbling over with excitement, ready to take you on a whirl through time – the magic of time travel on Magic Meg, my pink-sparkling shire horse with her golden hooves and dazzling white mane and tail. Oh, I’m positively giddy with anticipation!
Today, we’re setting our sights on January 1st, 1967. Can you believe it’s already been over half a century since this year? Honestly, the passage of time whizzes by, doesn't it? And wouldn't you know it, today’s ballet news was absolutely divine! The Royal Ballet were absolutely killing it, with "Swan Lake" making its debut on the West End stage. I’ve already got my eyes set on a front row seat for the next performance; I mean, can you even imagine, a pink tutu against the grandeur of the Royal Opera House, oh, the glamour!
Now, let me tell you, I just love exploring the ballet scene from times gone by. It’s so fascinating to see how styles have changed and how the art of dance has evolved! On this particular January 1st, it seems there were performances happening everywhere, from the legendary Bolshoi in Moscow, where they were staging their classic “Giselle”, to the elegant Paris Opera, showcasing "La Bayadère”. It makes you realise that, despite the decades passing, the beauty and grace of ballet still manages to hold its captivating magic across the world!
But of course, it wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu Travels experience without a little bit of fashion fun! This year was absolutely bursting with colour and excitement, just the kind of scene a girl after my own heart could adore! Imagine this, darling – long, swirling skirts that just kissed the floor, dramatic eyeliner, and that absolutely iconic 60s bouffant! The ballet costumes were also exquisite, with so many textures and styles to inspire – beautiful silks and shimmering sequins. It was an era that simply oozed chic! My darling rucksack on my back is already overflowing with lace and ribbons – this trip is truly going to be fabulous!
Now, for all of you tutu enthusiasts out there (and who isn’t?), 1967 was the year when ballet shoes truly began to take center stage! Pointe shoes were becoming incredibly popular, not just for professional dancers but for young ballerinas just starting out. It was a true sign of the times, showing how ballet was growing ever more accessible and celebrated across the globe!
I’ve been practicing my own pirouettes this morning, preparing to take part in a grand gala performance in my beloved Derbyshire. Oh, it’s truly inspiring seeing young dancers all set to dance their hearts out in their dazzling costumes. And don’t worry, I've got plenty of pink tutus for everyone!
Don't forget, darlings, I need your help! If you’re lucky enough to live in a town where there’s a ballet company, then get out there and see a show! We must support our brilliant artists! If you happen to come across any exciting events or ballet history gems from 1967, don’t forget to leave a comment below, I just love hearing from my fellow pink tutu fans!
Until next month, remember – life’s too short for boring tutus!
Lots of love,
Emma xx
