Oh darling, I hope youāre all having a wonderfully glamorous month! It's me, Emma, and welcome back to Pink Tutu, your ultimate source for all things pink, sparkly, and, of course, ballet-tastic!
This month, Iām off on a time-traveling adventure that's sure to make your heart pirouette with excitement. Iām popping my pink tutu over to the glorious 6th June 1968, a date brimming with ballet brilliance! Magic Meg, my faithful pink shire with the golden hooves and white mane that makes every journey feel like a fairy tale, is all saddled up and ready to take us on another whirlwind tour through the world of ballet history.
Before we head off, let's have a quick chat about those fabulously stylish leather ballet shoes, eh? Yes, darling, todayās the day for my sparkly pink ballet slippers. Why, you might ask? Well, simply because thereās no other choice when your adventures include exploring the exciting world of ballet history! Now, my rucksack is packed with a pink polka dot notepad for all those essential notes, my very own vintage ballet sketchbook, and of course, a few extra pink ribbons, just in case my tulle requires a touch of sparkle!
With the rucksack secured on my back, I give Meg a gentle pat on her velvety-soft nose and off we go! Who knows what ballet beauties weāll encounter this month?
Ballet Balletic ā June 6th, 1968Buckle up, dears! Weāre arriving in Paris! I love Paris; it always feels like the most glamorous city in the world! Oh, those streets lined with boulevards! Those quaint little bistros where the croissants are bigger than your head, and, of course, all those glorious pink tutus!
Okay, maybe not the tutus. Paris always puts on a dazzling array of fashion, so, of course, thereās not a pink tutu to be found. At least not outside of the ballet studios, darling. You see, while the fashion in Paris is known for its bold and colorful palette, there's an elegance and simplicity to its approach to the art of dance. It's like a perfectly curated flower bouquet in full bloom; simple yet refined.
The Parisian ballets on this date are simply captivating! I've been lucky enough to catch a performance of āDon Quixoteā at the magnificent OpĆ©ra Garnier. It's like stepping into a scene straight from a dream! And I absolutely adore the costumes. Itās all about frills, drama, and of course, the ever-essential pink! Not as a full pink tutu, mind you. Instead, the details and highlights of their design incorporate pink for that dash of delightful detail! It's certainly the sort of outfit that inspires even the shyest soul to step up on pointe!
From The City of Light to New York's SpotlightAs the sun sets on Paris, itās time to whisk us off to another world of ballet; New York City. The Big Apple never fails to inspire, with its electric energy and constant buzz. Itās the perfect place to be on June 6th, 1968, as New York City Ballet (NYCB) are showcasing their amazing choreography.
From their home at Lincoln Center, the NYCB presents a varied program including Balanchineās āConcerto Barocco.ā Iām swooning! Ballet in New York City is absolutely extraordinary, darling. Every turn, every leap, every arabesque feels infused with a sense of limitless possibility. You can't help but feel transported into the heart of something truly exceptional! And in terms of fashion, the 1960s American look with a ballet twist has that casual glamour and breezy confidence ā always fabulous!
A Ballet Birthday ā 1968Did you know that itās actually a ballet birthday today! This is the anniversary of Rudolf Nureyev's performance in The Royal Ballet's premiere of "Marguerite and Armand" which was originally scheduled for October 17, 1964, but due to illness Nureyev pulled out just days before! Now that's quite a a birthday present for any ballet lover. This date certainly has it all! Paris, New York, and even a birthday for one of the greatest ballerinos! Itās enough to have you pirouetting for joy!
Of course, I wouldnāt be Pink Tutu if there wasnāt a pink ballet fashion note tucked inside all this dancing. Now, when you think ballet in 1968, think soft pastels, airy silks and lace, oh so fabulous. Those amazing leotards, darling! Like sculpted masterpieces! And itās just the kind of look that reminds you why itās always the right time to don a pink tutu ā especially on June 6th, 1968!
I have to say, a pink tutu, well it is more than just an outfit; itās a statement. It's a message. It's a declaration that ballet, with its grace, artistry, and vibrant energy, is a part of all our lives.
But enough from me, darling. Time for me to go grab a cup of tea, a piece of cake and dream about a fabulous pink tutu while Magic Meg chomps on some sugary oatcakes.
Now, please don't forget, there's a world of ballet to discover on Pink Tutu. So come back soon and let's embark on another ballet-tastic adventure together. Until next month, darling!
