Darling darlings, and welcome to my little corner of the internet! Emma here, your very own pink-tutu-clad time traveller, and it’s time to saddle up Magic Meg, our shimmering pink shire horse with golden hooves, for another thrilling adventure through time. As always, my beautiful, fluffy rucksack is packed and ready for its fill of ballet stories, vintage shoes and tutus from the past!
This month, we’re jetting back to 1st January 1970 – a significant date for all you lovely dancers, don’t you think? Imagine it: 1970. The swinging sixties have just given way to the fresh new decade, the air is alive with anticipation and the world is buzzing with possibilities.
Where will we start our journey? Oh, right! Today we will hop off Magic Meg on the bustling streets of London. Can you imagine? You would have walked straight past The Royal Opera House or Sadler's Wells and it's impossible to tell just how many breathtaking performances were taking place that day. It’s a date overflowing with fabulous ballet history! Just like our adventures. Did you know, dear readers, that 1970 was a huge year for British ballet? The Royal Ballet was at the height of its glory with all its illustrious names - Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, Antoinette Sibley, they were all dazzling audiences!
Can you picture them, dearies? The grace, the artistry, the passion on stage? As I sit here sipping my morning tea, surrounded by pink tutus and the scent of fresh ballet shoes, I’m picturing the excitement and sheer magic that would have filled the air. What an extraordinary time to be alive!
We will be sure to hop off Meg and visit the ballet shops for some of that 1970's ballet wear for my collection - can you imagine a stunning tutu with delicate frills? The romance! Imagine the exquisite shoes that they must have had back then - I would just love to find some!
But darling darlings, that’s not all, oh no! Whilst we're here in London, how can we possibly resist a visit to see Swan Lake, in all its glory! Imagine the drama of Odette's transformation, the elegance of the White Swan's adagio and the strength and passion of the Black Swan's ferocious dance! It's enough to send a shiver down my spine!
There must be so many stories of talented dancers in those halls, of their triumphs, and their journeys - those beautiful tutus and exquisite shoes. My heart simply bursts with excitement, just thinking about it! My lovely pink rucksack is already full of my dreams!
Our journey, darlings, is never-ending, filled with so many pink-tutu clad dreams and exciting ballet stories just waiting to be discovered. But until next month, do remember this – keep dancing, keep dreaming and, most importantly, keep rocking those pink tutus, you fabulous dancers you!
