Hello, lovelies! It's Emma here, back from another thrilling time-hopping adventure with my trusty steed, Magic Meg. Today we're soaring back to October 10th, 1970 - a day bursting with ballet brilliance! Buckle up, darlings, because this one is a right bobby dazzler!
I must confess, this month's journey feels a bit like a personal dream come true! We’ve landed right smack-dab in the midst of a whole new ballet fashion era - just look at the outfits! And oh my, darling, they’re dazzling! Forget the fussy, restrictive corsets of yesteryear, the '70s are all about flowing, vibrant fabrics, sleek lines, and pops of colour that simply make me swoon.
Think bold, eye-catching geometric patterns on shimmering leotards. Picture daring, leg-baring tutus - think billowing clouds of chiffon that swish and swirl with every pirouette! These are tutus that dare to be different, a testament to a fresh, rebellious spirit that was starting to revolutionise ballet in the '70s.
Today, we're headed straight to the Royal Opera House in London, for an evening performance of The Nutcracker! A classic that has, of course, been reimagined with a touch of seventies panache. Just imagine those shimmering sugar plum fairies in their floaty, colour-blocked tutus. Pure enchantment!
And as we venture outside the theatre, it’s hard not to notice the captivating energy on the streets - a time of exciting cultural change! A mix of vintage chic and new trends - flared trousers, floral prints, platform shoes, even a bit of glitter here and there! It seems the whole world has caught a glimpse of ballet's elegance and swagger.
I’ve even snagged a vintage poster from a 1970 production of Swan Lake to add to my collection. A perfect memento for a magical time travel adventure. Speaking of memories, my backpack is brimming with the stories of this exciting decade! The London Ballet has been making a name for itself, pioneering bold and innovative ballets with modern music, fresh choreography, and designs that boldly re-interpret the classics. They’re all about breaking boundaries and embracing the revolutionary spirit of their era.
While I am utterly besotted with all the fashionable delights on offer, it's a reminder that this journey isn't just about fashion and style! It’s about witnessing a pivotal moment in ballet's evolution. A period when daring new choreographers, visionary designers, and incredible dancers were making waves on the world stage. Their vision and courage is something to truly celebrate and be inspired by.
For me, ballet is about sharing the love, darling. And you know what’s the most beautiful thing about all these vibrant tutus and fashionable designs? They make it even easier to share my passion! So put on your pink tutu, and let's all be a part of this fabulous ballet story together!
Until next month, remember, darlings - the world of ballet is full of magic.
xx Emma
