Hello lovelies! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travel, your monthly dose of history, fashion, and, of course, all things ballet! This month weâre tiptoeing back to March 3rd, 1971, a date overflowing with exciting ballet happenings.
It's been a busy month. I've just performed in a fundraising gala for the Derbyshire Youth Ballet â absolutely darling little things, they are â and managed to squeeze in some exquisite shopping at Harrods in between all the rehearsals. Speaking of rehearsals, Magic Meg and I are always in top form; we're getting so good at this whole time travel business. Did I mention Magic Meg is wearing a fabulously sparkly pink saddle? Just like her hooves, but in velvet! Oh, the things we see together.
Right then, back to 1971. Where in the world did our fabulous pink tutu and I travel this time? This month we were swept away toâŠdrumroll please⊠Paris, darling!. Imagine the fashion!
As always, I was positively bursting with excitement. But, the most delightful part? I learned about the âBallet de lâOpĂ©ra de Paris" or âParis Opera Balletâ. You wouldnât believe the glamorous ladies in tutus I saw.
First off, we wandered the bustling city. It was such a wonderful cultural buzz â art, music, everything felt exciting! And Paris is truly a fashion capital. Everywhere I looked, beautiful, fashionable women. As always, I picked up some darling bits and bobs for my own tutu wardrobe â and a gorgeous Parisian beret! The fabrics! The colours! My pack is overflowing, and I can't wait to show you all my new acquisitions in my next blog post.
Our time-traveling schedule was packed to the brim! We were able to catch the legendary Rudolf Nureyev performing âDon Juanâ, at the Palais Garnier! Absolutely sensational. I just adored his incredible artistry and the sheer power he commanded on the stage. And the tutus! The whole thing was truly captivating.
We also popped into the grand Opéra Garnier for a bit of historical research. Now, let me tell you, that building! Absolutely magnificent, you could practically feel the energy of a hundred years of ballet history bouncing off the walls.
We even went to watch a matinee performance of "The Nutcrackerâ at the OpĂ©ra Garnier! The young ballerinas, oh my word! They were just darling little sprites in their pretty pink tutus, twirling and jumping with the greatest of joy. Truly magical, every bit of it! I had the most gorgeous little tulle skirt with ribbons, you know? Such a fabulous and nostalgic colour. It brought out the colour in my cheeks. Oh, how I wanted to snatch it up, but a ladyâs got to maintain her decorum! Sigh
It was just all so utterly charming. The beautiful people, the music, the elegant tutus, even the air smelled of enchantment! What a wonderful world this ballet world is, and how thrilling to experience it from so many different periods.
You can imagine the little stories I was writing in my notebook! My heart filled with so many delightful stories. The whole adventure has given me endless inspiration. And donât worry darlings, all my lovely little finds will be displayed for you on www.pink-tutu.com as always.
You know, you can see this kind of amazing ballet performance every single month by checking out what happened on that day in ballet history, by looking on the www.pink-tutu.com website, my monthly posts always give you the inside scoop!
