Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where every month we pirouette through history, exploring the world of ballet with my trusty companion, Magic Meg, my pink-sparkling Shire horse with those glorious golden hooves. Today, weāre turning our time-traveling tutus towards August 8th, 1978, and let me tell you, it's a whirlwind of exciting performances and ballet happenings!
1978... the Year of the Tutu
Imagine, darling, itās 1978, disco is all the rage, and a certain cheeky little boy named Michael Jackson is starting to take the world by storm. But for us, it's all about the grace and elegance of ballet. Oh, how the tutu has come into its own. The volume is BIG, darling, just how we love it! It's a magical time to be twirling.
Off to the Bolshoi!
Magic Meg whinnies impatiently, so let's begin our time-travelling adventure! First, we're galloping towards Moscow, Russia, where the Bolshoi Theatre is buzzing with excitement. It's a grand occasion, darlings - the premiere of "Ivan the Terrible", a ballet by our beloved Yuri Grigorovich, renowned for his dramatic interpretations of Russian history. Imagine, ballet that weaves in historical storytelling! We'd be grabbing front-row seats and admiring those dramatic costumes. Perhaps there would even be a little bit of 'Tsar-inspired' flair for my rucksack - oh, the potential!
American Dreams on Point
But there's more, darlings! From the depths of Russia, we're flying (yes, even Magic Meg is mastering those air miles) to America. Here in New York City, the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) is hosting its annual Fall Season. Just imagine the energy, the glamour, the talent! A full five weeks of ballet bliss! This is where youād see stars like Mikhail Baryshnikov grace the stage with his mesmerizing, athleticism.
More than just the Shows, darling
But itās not all about big, glamorous performances, darling! Thereās a beauty to discovering the less-known, the smaller gems. This month, we're off to Derbyshire ā you guessed it! Home sweet home! I love peeking back into Derbyshireās local dance schools and witnessing the young passion for ballet bubbling up in the hearts of new generations. A peek into the classroom is always such a lovely addition to my rucksack. Those childhood moments are priceless!
My Pink Tutu Take on Ballet in 1978
Itās a time when ballet has its eyes on the future. Weāre witnessing the development of bold new styles and fresh interpretations, even in traditional ballet works. That's something we should always cherish. And to really get into the mood of the time, we need some fabulous outfits, darlings. Picture bell-bottom jeans with sparkly sequins, maybe even a vintage ballet wrap with a floral print! Iād definitely be sporting some glitter and feathers too, because in the world of Pink-Tutu, there is no such thing as too much!
Don't forget the Accessories!
And speaking of accessories, darling! Imagine that āBohemianā style - beads and floral accessories, crocheted hats, maybe a little leather fringed vest over a flowing floral shirt! Think seventies chic with a touch of that whimsical ballet flair. This is a time of creativity, an era when self-expression and the pursuit of beauty come together to create an utterly unique and joyous aesthetic. And we, the Pink Tutu enthusiasts, can't help but be charmed by it!
Time Travel is All About Fashion
For those of you wondering how I manage to finance these extraordinary adventures? It's simple, really! As you know, my true passion lies not only in sharing my love of ballet with the world but also in making ballet accessible and stylish. Thatās why Iām holding a special "1978 Pink-Tutu Fundraiser Ballet". Think glittering gowns and glamorous dancing inspired by that unforgettable year. I can just picture the audience in all their seventiesā chic!
Where do we Go Next?
So there you have it, my darlings! Our little time-travel excursion into the ballet-infused year of 1978. Join me next month, as we twirl into another exciting era of ballet history! Until then, keep on dancing, and never stop twirling in your fabulous pink tutu!
Lots of love,
Emma www.pink-tutu.com
