Ballet Time Travel Blog - Post 3821: A Whirlwind May Day in 1979!

Hello my darlings! Emma here, back from another fantastical adventure through time! Today we're pirouetting back to the 5th of May, 1979 – a day filled with ballet magic, colourful costumes, and some rather wonderful discoveries, I must say. And let me tell you, this little trip has left my heart full, my bag bulging, and my imagination swirling.

As you know, my trusty steed Magic Meg is as keen as a new pointe shoe on these adventures. With her glittering pink coat, white mane and tail like a cloud, and golden hooves that glimmer in the sunshine, Meg's a sight to behold, and her spirit perfectly reflects my love of all things fabulous!

Today we journeyed to... well, that's a bit of a secret! My Time Travel Etiquette dictates that the precise locations must remain a secret, to preserve the magic of the moment. I wouldn't want to interfere, would I? So, we shall just say it was a beautiful city bathed in sunshine. Perfect for spotting some exceptional ballet!

Imagine my delight when, just around the corner, I found a bustling theatre. "The Royal Ballet! That’s surely no coincidence, my love!", I whispered to Magic Meg, whose ears perked with interest. Tonight was opening night for "The Sleeping Beauty", a real masterpiece! And as I waltzed towards the entrance (just a little twirl, you understand, couldn’t help myself!), I could practically feel the excitement brewing in the air, just like a ballerina's heart before the curtain rises.

The moment I stepped inside the grand foyer, I was captivated by the bustle and the music. I found myself surrounded by a beautiful kaleidoscope of people: elegant ladies in their finest attire, dapper gentlemen with charming smiles, and a palpable buzz of anticipation.

I, of course, made a beeline for the cloakroom – one must always be prepared for an impromptu dance! Thankfully, my pink tutu is never out of place. And you know what? It perfectly matched the joyous air of the occasion. People were grinning as they greeted me. "That tutu," whispered one lady, "It's absolutely divine!" I just beamed, "Thank you, darling! Pink is just my happy colour."

The auditorium was a dazzling scene. The red velvet seats and sparkling chandeliers – truly enchanting! The dancers, dressed in stunning costumes (oh, how I would have loved a little peek at the backstage!) began to warm up with their graceful movements. And then, the music soared.

The opening was like a dream! My heart soared, the stage glowed, and the entire world just seemed to spin with enchantment. This truly was a magic moment – like something out of a fairy tale. The choreography, the music, the exquisite artistry – every detail spoke of love, beauty, and pure artistry. You know what they say, a show can touch the heart like no other.

And just wait till you hear what happened during the interval! I was browsing the beautiful vintage programmes and suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder! "Are you by any chance... a time traveller?" gasped a lady with sparkling eyes, just as shocked as I was.

“Why, yes!” I said, completely bewildered but excited. “And you? It seems our time travel passions align! We are like souls swirling across the space-time continuum!" She giggled, "Yes, and the pink tutu... you have to be a fellow Time Traveller!” My bag, a trusty leather rucksack which always doubles as a "Time Traveller’s Trove" for collecting the trinkets and memories of the times, just beckoned. And she let me see her fascinating programme for a 'ballet inspired tea' just yesterday, how delightful! We exchanged anecdotes of our journeys, a testament to the unifying power of dance. Oh my, what a joy it is to discover others who understand this extraordinary world!

And then, in a twist I could never have foreseen, she introduced me to a captivating ballerina. Imagine, the lead ballerina in the performance itself, with grace that could melt glaciers! She explained that she had always been captivated by the vibrant energy of pink – the color of life and joy. This was so exciting for me, seeing the essence of my passion for pink resonating with someone I admired. And imagine my glee – we exchanged fashion ideas about a wonderful Parisian shop with all the most fabulous tutus!

I made it my mission to get her a beautiful pink tutu! We agreed that a soft pink shade would compliment her performance perfectly and we made plans to meet the following day, her time, for shopping spree – naturally. We'll discuss my favourite spots for gorgeous tutus: "The Tutu Emporium," just off the high street, has such a delightful selection, I guarantee a treasure trove for anyone! I will be sure to blog all about it!

The whole journey was so exhilarating! Every encounter, every story I've collected, and the sheer energy of this beautiful time has left my heart full and my spirit invigorated. And of course, no journey is complete without a final thought for my dear reader... I do believe that we must all strive to embrace our inner ballerina.

As the curtain fell and I tucked my newfound ballet treasures in my Time Traveller’s Trove, I looked at Meg. She whinnied with delight, as though sharing the magic with me. Now that’s a girl after my own heart.

So, my dears, remember – whether it's a grand stage performance, a playful ballet class, or simply a little twirl around the room, find your own magic, let your heart soar, and dance with passion! And perhaps, even embrace a touch of pink in your own unique way!

See you next month for another grand Time Travel adventure, dear readers!

Until then, keep twirling and stay stylish. Love, Emma x
