Pink Tutu Time Travels: January 1st, 1981 - Post #3841

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to my pink tutu time travels! It’s the 1st of January 1981, and I’m perched atop my shimmering steed, Magic Meg, who’s pawing the ground impatiently. This year is shaping up to be quite the whirlwind!

You see, dear readers, January 1st is always a day for resolutions, isn't it? We look back on the old year and dream about what the new year holds. For me, the only resolution I ever need is to spread the joy and magic of pink tutus around the world!

But enough about my aspirations. Let’s jump right into our first trip of 1981! I’ve been dying to share the fabulous happenings in the ballet world of this time period.

Today, I'm aiming my trusty time-travelling compass to New York City!

The New York City Ballet:

I hear the company, led by the legendary Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins, is in full swing, and boy oh boy, the schedule is jam-packed! There’s the exquisite ‘Agon’ by Stravinsky, showcasing a symphony of movement and music that simply dazzles. They are also performing the playful ‘Four Temperaments’ by Hindemith. This piece explores four distinct character traits and their expression through movement, a real treat for the eyes!

Now, what’s more fun than ballet? Well, seeing the exquisite tutus! The designs in the 80s were so creative - think sleek lines and geometric shapes. The sheer colour combinations had me doing a little pirouette with delight. And, don’t even get me started on the footwear! Imagine, my lovelies, shoes with glittering accents, pointy toes, and vibrant colours! Such exquisite pieces.

My Time Capsule Finds:

And, you know what? I snagged myself some true treasures from this time travel adventure, just for my little pink tutu collection back in Derbyshire!

I've got a fantastically embroidered shoe bag. The fabric is so soft, with these dainty flower designs that would make a ballet teacher's heart sing! And I also found this beautiful old programme, a bit faded from time, with a gorgeous photograph of the 'Four Temperaments' performance.

The Power of Fashion:

As you all know, ballet is more than just a performance; it's about the artistry, the passion, and the dedication, but the costumes truly bring the whole spectacle together. The tutus and footwear add another layer of artistry that deserves recognition, a sort of visual poetry that tells the story in its own way.

Now, I’m sure you’re wondering about Magic Meg, my faithful time-travelling partner. Well, she loves this time period! It’s no wonder, with all those grand cityscapes and shimmering avenues. The city's lights glisten on her pink mane like stars, and I can just imagine all the little pink tutus peeking from windows to wave at her.

Call to Action:

My darlings, this is a call to action! Have a little adventure in the New Year and give your inner ballerina the love she deserves! Let’s all put on our pink tutus and embrace our creativity and love for this magical art form!

Next month, we're journeying back to a different time, a different ballet, a different story. Make sure you're subscribed to www.pink-tutu.com to stay up-to-date on all the amazing happenings. And, of course, don’t forget to spread the pink tutu love!

Until next time, my dear readers, happy dancing!

Your eternally devoted,

Emma 💕
