Hello my lovelies! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood time-travelling ballerina, and guess what? This month I’m twirling back to the vibrant eighties! Can you imagine a world without TikTok or Instagram? Don’t worry, it's not as terrifying as it sounds - there's still plenty of exciting stuff going on!
As always, I'm riding my beautiful steed, Magic Meg, a shire horse with a mane and tail as white as fresh snow and hooves that shine like golden nuggets. She’s a proper pink-loving girly girl like me, sporting a glistening pink saddle, bridle, and even tiny pink horseshoes! We are ready for our adventure. My trusty pink rucksack, full of space for ballet treasures, is already packed and ready for a magical journey back through time.
Back to the 80's!This month, I'm taking a little trip back to February 2nd, 1982. That's right, right into the heart of the fabulous 80s! This was a period of huge change in the world of ballet, and not just because of those big hairdos and neon leotards! Ballet was undergoing a renaissance of creativity and innovation, pushing the boundaries and making it exciting for everyone!
And let’s talk about the fashion! I love to imagine what it would have been like to stroll down a street full of leg warmers, bright neon colours, and everything shiny. It's such a fabulous era for expressing individuality and going all out! The bold makeup, big hair, and fun-loving attitudes just scream confidence and exuberance, don't you think?
Imagine me in my pale pink tutu with tulle so soft it feels like a dream, a splash of cherry-red lipstick, and a mischievous grin on my face! Oh, the fun we'd have in the 80s!
A Glimpse into the World of BalletOn February 2nd, 1982, the world of ballet was buzzing with exciting events. Across the Atlantic, in the heart of New York City, the New York City Ballet was staging a beautiful performance of Balanchine's "Diamonds". What an absolute joy! The beauty and elegance of this ballet piece would have been mesmerizing, and I can imagine the whole theater bursting with the glitter of diamonds on stage, shining alongside the sparkling leotards of the dancers.
And back here in Blighty, The Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House were holding rehearsals for a brand-new production of "Giselle". The romantic and enchanting tale of a heartbroken peasant girl, who chooses love over life, always resonates with audiences and is a personal favourite of mine. To see a new interpretation of a timeless classic back in the day, oh, it would be pure magic!
Spreading the Love of Pink TutuesI always tell everyone - "Every day is an opportunity to twirl and sparkle, just like a ballerina!" I hope you'll all embrace the pink tutu, embrace the joy of ballet and, most importantly, let your own unique creativity shine!
