Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, darlings! This month, we're hopping aboard Magic Meg for a whirlwind trip back to 10th October 1982. It's Post Number 3862 on www.pink-tutu.com and it's sure to be a fabulous one. I’m Emma, your pink-loving, tutu-obsessed time travelling ballerina, and you know I can't resist a chance to peek into the world of ballet from a different era!
So, dust off your prettiest pink tutu, darlings, and hold onto your tights because this time, we're headed to the magical world of the 80s!
As always, before we jet off on our adventure, I’m thrilled to share some exciting ballet news! Did you know there was a performance at Sadler's Wells Theatre in London on this very date in 1982? It was by the London Festival Ballet - a real treasure of a company. I can just imagine the excitement building as the lights dimmed, and the audience hushed in anticipation. Oh, the glamour!
I absolutely adore learning about ballet history, especially when I can see what was on offer that very same day. Can you imagine having the privilege to see a performance in 1982? Talk about an iconic moment in time! Just thinking about it gets my pointe shoes tapping with anticipation.
But wait, darling, we're not just stopping at Sadler's Wells. No, my dears, this is a world-wide adventure! Think of the fashion! Oh, those beautiful tutus! Just picturing the swirling skirts, the vibrant colours, and the elegant silhouettes has me daydreaming already. Can you even imagine a ballerina in a vibrant pink tutu onstage? The world would simply have to stop and stare.
We’re off! Magic Meg is pawing the ground impatiently, and my trusty leather rucksack is ready for all the magical memories this time period holds. I can already picture those vibrant tights, the bright leotards and those iconic headbands! Oh, the colours and styles were a true kaleidoscope of flair! This trip, my dears, will be about the passion and joy of the ballet world and all those dazzling dancers on the world stage.
The first stop on our itinerary is Paris, darling, to catch a glimpse of the legendary Paris Opera Ballet. Imagine that: watching those stunning dancers from the front row! They've got some spectacular talent there, let me tell you. Paris is the perfect place to enjoy the vibrant Parisian life, see some exquisite couture designs in those iconic ballet shoes and discover the latest in hair accessories and ballet makeup. It's time to go on a little shopping spree! There's a Parisian boutique I simply must visit - such elegant, fashionable pieces for my ballet collection! You just have to experience it to believe it.
Next on the agenda, my darling: we’re crossing the Atlantic, leaving the cobbled streets of Paris behind and arriving at the grand, beautiful steps of the New York City Ballet. What better place to capture the pulsating energy and creativity of New York, eh? And, as if that weren’t enough, imagine those awe-inspiring tutus designed by the legendary Karinska! Those are absolutely legendary designs, and they set a high bar in the fashion stakes. Imagine me sporting one of her amazing designs in the middle of Times Square. It would be an explosion of colour and grace! Just thinking about it gives me chills! The ballet fashion of that era was utterly spectacular.
As a fellow pink-lover, I’m eager to see what stunning ballet shoes they've designed, which is probably what the girls wear under those fantastic tutus. From the satin-smooth finish of the slippers to the beautiful soft padding on the inside, everything has to be spot on! I wonder what they thought of those delightful velvet ribbons they tied around the ankle? It really added a special touch of elegance, and what a breathtaking sight they must have been when seen in those elegant moves, so effortless and beautiful, with each dancer in a shimmering spotlight! I could dance for days just imagining it all!
So, you can imagine my glee! Magic Meg can get us there with lightning speed - faster than a grand jeté! I am so excited about these fantastic opportunities to see the beauty of ballet in these two magnificent locations on the same day! A real dream come true for any ballet lover! We’ll get to see the ballet from its most intimate performances right up to the world’s grandest stages, all within a matter of hours - wouldn’t you just adore that?!
After our journey across continents and experiencing the wonders of ballet in Paris and New York, I’ll bring back a rucksack filled with tales, memories and some vintage fashion from my time travels!
