Pink Tutu Travels: January 1st, 1986 - A Tutu-ific New Year in the World of Ballet!

Happy New Year, my darling Tutu-lovers! It’s Emma here, ready to whisk you away on a fabulous trip through time, this time to the exciting year of 1986! As always, my trusty steed, Magic Meg, a pink sparkling Shire horse with hooves like spun gold and a mane like the most glorious clouds, is eager to trot us into the world of ballet, fashion, and everything fabulous. Let's buckle up, my loves, because we're off on an adventure!

Ballet, Fashion and 1986: A Perfect Pink Combination

Now, 1986! A year full of so much ballet brilliance. Remember that year, darling? The neon hues, the shoulder pads, the power ballads… and all this glamour paired so perfectly with the elegance of the ballet world. Imagine! The power of Mikhail Baryshnikov, the elegance of Margot Fonteyn in their heyday - both so divine! Ah, memories! But let's get back to 1986 and see what wonders we can unearth. My rucksack, ready to be stuffed full of beautiful memories, is ready to go. I have to admit, it's been a bit quiet in my little Derbyshire corner since I've been flitting between different times - a few days in 1886, then a whirlwind week in the Roaring Twenties! But, it's the 1st of January, so we're back, ready to fill the world with pink tutus and magical adventures.

A Look at The World of Ballet On January 1st, 1986

Of course, I had to take a look at what was on in the ballet world on this particular date. I wouldn't be a true ballet time traveller without some insight into the ballet shows and performances on offer. My little detective work on the world of ballet for this date was exciting! I saw that the New York City Ballet was already back in action after the holiday break, performing "Swan Lake" and "Concerto Barocco", followed by a weekend production of Balanchine's "Diamonds". Now, that’s what I call a start to the year!

Shopping In 1986: It's All About That Big Hair!

Now, this wouldn’t be a complete ballet time-travel experience without a dash of fashion, would it, darlings? My favourite part of travelling through time? Shopping! Oh, I’m absolutely dreaming about what I would find in the boutiques and department stores of 1986! Lace and velvet were the textures of the time, my dears. Think dramatic puffed sleeves and romantic, floor-sweeping skirts, perfect for a princess ballerina, or perhaps a simple but elegant dress with that ā€œstatementā€ piece - a massive bow on the shoulder! Oh my!

The hairstyles? Pure drama! I'm picturing big, bouffant hair, complete with side fringes and crimped locks. And for the perfect ballet look, a simple bun with a few strands escaping around the face. Think, Brigitte Bardot's famous hairstyle.

Ballet In The Future

While 1986 felt like a world away from Derbyshire (and possibly even a time ago!), I have to say, the joy of travelling through time is discovering that certain aspects of ballet have never truly changed. Those gorgeous costumes, the delicate movements, the dedication of the dancers and, of course, the feeling of awe and enchantment that every ballet performance creates! We may have come from a time of pink sparkly tutus and sleek, modern ballerinas, but even back in 1986, it seems the essence of ballet has stayed true.

So, here's to the continued journey of ballet!

Don’t forget to join me on my pink ballet-inspired adventure. Let me know in the comments what you think of my latest adventure, my lovely readers. Until next time, keep it pink and sparkly!

Emma x
