#BalletHistory during 1986 11 November

Post Number 3911: 11th November 1986 - A Whirlwind in the '80s!

Hello, my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where the pink tutus flow and ballet history unfolds! It's Emma here, ready to whisk you off on another dazzling adventure through time! This month, I'm travelling back to the fabulous eighties, specifically 11th November 1986, a day buzzing with excitement in the ballet world. Grab your favourite pink tutu, saddle up on Magic Meg (my sparkly pink Shire with those gorgeous golden hooves!) and let's step back in time!

Oh, before we leave, I just have to share my latest pink tutu find! I discovered the most stunning blush pink tutu at a vintage shop in Derbyshire. It's absolutely divine - made with layers and layers of tulle and accented with delicate silk ribbons. I knew instantly that it belonged in my collection, and of course, it will be featured in my next ballet performance to help fund my time travels. Speaking of performances, the ballet world was truly alive and kicking on this date in 1986. Let's take a peek, shall we?

New York City Ballet

First stop: The Big Apple, where New York City Ballet was in full swing. They were in the middle of their 1986-87 season, featuring works by Balanchine, Robbins, and other iconic choreographers. Imagine being there in the audience! I just love those big city, grand ballet theatres! And those glorious costumes! Oh, the thrill of a night at the ballet...

The Royal Ballet

Now let's whisk ourselves across the Atlantic to the grand halls of The Royal Ballet. They were showcasing Kenneth MacMillan’s 'Mayerling' and a triple bill of ballets from Antony Tudor, Ashton and Macmillan. My goodness, how much dancing must have been going on in London! I wonder if there were any performances of "The Sleeping Beauty," which was just resurrected with some absolutely phenomenal sets and costumes back in 1981. That must have been simply stunning! I adore "The Sleeping Beauty," such a classic, beautiful piece!

The World of Ballet Fashion

Of course, no ballet history escapade is complete without a delve into fashion! 1986 saw a blossoming of the ballet aesthetic beyond the stage. Big, bold prints, shoulder pads, and sleek lines ruled the day, making even everyday life feel like a glamorous performance. I simply adored the styles of the time. I even experimented with a few bright colour blocks on my tutu back then... what can I say, I'm always pushing boundaries and breaking the mould! But we do love a bit of fun, right, my lovelies?

My Tutu Treasure from the '80s

Remember my trusty leather rucksack, where I stow all my time-travel treasures? On this particular trip, I came across a remarkable find – a 1986 ballet magazine featuring a beautiful article on "The Ballerina's Art." This article was incredibly insightful, sharing tips and advice on everything from posture to technique. The illustrations were captivating! A genuine insight into ballet back in the 80s, and a piece I will treasure forever.

I hope this glimpse into 11th November 1986 has ignited your imagination! You know, darling, one of the most magical things about ballet is that it connects us to history, across cultures, continents and eras. And we all can enjoy a bit of that magic with a splash of pink tutu, don't you think? Until next month, keep spreading the joy of pink tutus and embracing your inner ballerina!

Much love and twirls,

Emma
