Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels! Today, we’re jetting back in time, or should I say, galloping back in time, to the 3rd of March 1987! 🩰 That's right, it's time for another Pink Tutu adventure, and this month we’re swirling through the wonderful world of ballet, discovering all the dazzling shows, fabulous costumes and fantastic events that took place back then! As always, I’m wearing my favourite pink tutu, feeling every bit the glamorous ballerina! 💕
Now, for those of you new to the pink-tutu.com world, let me tell you a bit about how I get around… It all started with my beautiful horse, Magic Meg, a sparkling shire horse with a mane and tail like spun white silk and the most beautiful golden hooves you've ever seen! Meg takes me wherever I want to go in time, she's like my own personal pink-hued time machine! 🕰️
Each month, I travel back to a specific date and share my experiences and findings. Of course, my trips are always funded by my ballet performances, so I always need to have enough bookings in my diary to make sure I can fund these incredible adventures. Plus, there’s no such thing as having too many pink tutus, am I right?! 😉
Today's travel bag is bursting at the seams with the exciting ballet discoveries I've gathered. You wouldn't believe the fabulous fabrics, incredible costumes and captivating stories from the world of ballet on the 3rd March 1987!
Speaking of my trusty bag, I always take it with me. It's a beautiful, hand-stitched, leather rucksack with my Pink Tutu Travels logo stitched upon it! 🎒
I don't know about you lovelies, but my first port of call whenever I land in a new era is always the local ballet school! After all, you can’t truly understand any historical period without seeing how the dance moves evolved! 💖 Today, we're off to a school in beautiful Derbyshire, where I hear they have a brilliant teacher who trained under the famous Anna Pavlova herself.
The Ballet World in 1987: A Glittering Scene! On 3rd March 1987, the ballet world was alive with fabulous performances, both in grand theatres and on smaller, more intimate stages!
In London’s Royal Opera House, the legendary Mikhail Baryshnikov, the epitome of classical ballet, was captivating audiences in a performance of Don Quixote! Can you imagine, darling, actually witnessing the genius of Baryshnikov in the flesh! It would truly be a night to remember, wouldn’t it? ✨
Over in the US, a ballet-themed documentary called Baryshnikov on Broadway premiered on PBS, giving a glimpse of his incredible talents.
In the Soviet Union, a production of the majestic ballet, Swan Lake premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow! I must tell you, watching this timeless tale unfold on stage is something everyone should experience at least once!
As we explore the world of ballet today, I also noticed the gorgeous ballet clothing that was all the rage in 1987! They seem to be taking a page out of the 80s fashion trends and embracing bright colours, bold patterns, and a dash of flair in both the dance and the fashion world! ✨
Ballet fashion, 1987: A Mix of Elegance and ExuberanceIn 1987, ballet fashion was as much about making a statement as it was about functional dance wear!
Think daring colour combinations and intricate embellishments that added a touch of glamour to even the simplest of leotards. The pink-tutu loving ballerina in me swooned at the vibrant shades of pink, bright yellows, and electric blues that adorned these costumes! It was truly a time of incredible creativity, experimentation, and pushing boundaries in the world of ballet design.
Even off the stage, the dancers’ personal style reflected this passion for vibrant colours and bold statements. It was almost as if their dance energy and joy translated into their everyday looks! You could find them in bright leotards paired with brightly patterned leggings, sleek ballet shoes with statement jewellery, and even, you wouldn't believe this, bold earrings with tutus, worn not on stage but for casual daytime wear!
Pink Tutu Style: A Blast from the Past! This just shows you darlings, the world of ballet fashion is not just for the stage, but something that influences every aspect of a dancer's life! I simply must adopt a bit of this bright, expressive energy and apply it to my own pink tutu styling! What a delightful idea, bright tutus and a 1987 fashion vibe for the Pink Tutu Travels! 😍
I'm feeling inspired, darlings! I’m going to start researching vintage ballet costumes and try to add a bit of the 1987 look into my wardrobe. Think colourful leotards and bright tutus – oh, and definitely lots of pink! Perhaps a bit of glitzy earrings and a stylish pair of leggings with my bright pink tutu, what do you think?! 💖
Don’t forget, I love to hear your feedback on my travels and ideas! Leave a comment on pink-tutu.com and tell me your favourite vintage ballet styles, whether you'd like to see a certain performance, or maybe a particular ballet dress in action. This blog is your world, lovelies, and I love to know what you think!
That’s all from Pink Tutu Travels this month, darling, but we'll be back again on the 3rd of April, with a dazzling new vintage ballet adventure to explore! 🩰
Until next time, keep on twirling!
Love, Emma. www.pink-tutu.com Post #3915
